    3. In the 1881 British census there were people who had been born in Ireland living all over England. The census asked place of birth & those who had been born in England, Wales or Scotland were supposed to specify a town, while those from other places were left more open. Many of the Irish just say "Ireland", as in the US censuses, but many others included at least a county, which is how I found out that my gggf, who was living in Birmingham, was theoretically born in Rosscommon. (Of course, as Geraghty is common in Rosscommon, it hasn't done me a whole lot of good thus far to know it anyway.... <g>) I'm happy to try lookups in the cd's if your family was still in Great Britain in 1881 and you have have enough information to try to narrow the field somewhat.
