    1. [PALACKAW] Books on Lackawanna History
    2. Toni Mason
    3. Hi, I am going to attempt to write a family history but don't want to just write the "bare bones" with just names and dates. I would like to find some books that recount the struggle of people (especially Irish) in the early Luzerne-Lackawanna time period (l840-1910) for Archbald, Carbondale, Olyphant or Scranton. In other words, their dwellings, labor, food, customs, church activities, etc. that would give me a good idea of how they lived on a day to day basis. One story I'll never forget is that my great aunt never ate chicken. It was because she was the one who had to go out in the back yard, catch the bird and get it ready for the cooking pot. It's stories like these that I am after. If you know of a good book please let me know. Many thanks in advance. Toni Mason upstate NY where spring has finally arrived
