Carol and others, The White Oak mine opened in 1846 in Archbald (Laurel Street) not far from the Lackawanna River. It closed in 1911 when the Gravity Slope Colliery replaced it. Give me your grandfather's name and I'll try to help. Joe Bryer GRSNP PHeppnerjr@aol.com wrote: I have heard of the White Oak mine, but really don't know a lot about it. I do know who you can ask, however, _http://www.grsnp.org/_ (http://www.grsnp.org/) . Grsnp would be able to help you get a info on White Oak, and maybe your grandfather too. Good Luck! Carol
