    1. [PALACKAW] William Lannce on Printers Road in the 1880 Census
    2. It looks like after many years searching I have found my ggg grandfather, William Lance. William was born about 1814 in or near Walnut Valley, NJ where he eventually married Charlotte Brown. Poor Charlotte passed away between 1865 and the 1870 NJ census, leaving Willam a widower. for years I've tried unsucessfully to find what happened to William. His eldest son, Anthony, b 1852, moved to the north Scranton, Albington, Clarks Green, Nicholson, area where he lived most of his life and passed in 1931. It now looks like William moved to Printers Road, Lackawanna, in what was then the 14 Ward, dist 68 and changed the spelling of our family name to LANNCE, by adding another "N". Three of his children, Jennie, Robert, and William are there with him. Now but the 1890 cnsus he has again dissappeared. Maybe he passed away, maybe he moved again. Anyone have any ideas? 3. Laurence, Congrats on piecing your Lance/Lannce family puzzle together! Do you know how/if Walter H. & Clara Lance, daughter Ruth b abt 1906, fit into the family. They lived on Clarks Green Road, Clarks Green, Lackawanna Co. PA in 1930. Census says Walter was born in PA abt. 1883, Ruth single in 1930. Wonder if Ruth married? I have pictures that may include Ruth so would like to find family who could help with IDs. 2. Yes, Walter H. is my first cousin, twice removed. He was the son of John I. Lance and Matilda. John was the son of William Lance who I very much think became William Lannce. It's my bet that after Charlotte died it was pretty much the end for William. To his credit William managed to keep the family together, which in itself was a minor miracle and a major undertaking.? I think William kind of hung on to life and did the best he could but it's my guess his debts overtook him and I'll bet he was on the run on that account....course it could have been something else he was running from, but it's my guess he was out of money. My data shows Ruth born May 21, 1905, passed Sept of 1992 and married to Floyd R. Hallock of unknown dates or parents. No children known for this couple.
