They are actual images of the Scranton city directories. It's pretty easy to find the persons you're looking for because the original directories are alphabetical. It's just a matter of scrolling through the pages until you get to the right one. I used the films in January and it's well worth the few hours it takes to look at them. You can really pin down when and where persons were, occupation, who lived with them, etc. Some of the directories are at the Scranton main public library but they're in pretty bad shape, no cover, missing pages, etc. and as I remember only go up to about 1900. Also not too convenient unless you live in the area.
