Hello List I have come into possession of photos of my Grandfather & Greatgrandfather circa 1930-1935. Both men lived in Carbondale. Two photos are taken on the steps of building with the sign "JMC CAMP". There are numbers below the lettering I am trying to decipher. Both men were hunters & fishermen. Does anyone have knowledge of this "camp" or club? Thanks & Merry Christmas & Happy New Year. Paul Harmon
I am looking for a Lena Knie who is mentioned in the will of her father George Rosar who died in 1903. I have checked the census records and cannot find any Lena Knie. I do find a Carolina Rosar living with her father George in the 1860 census age 6 and in the1870 census (looks like 16 but not sure). She is not in the 1880 census with her father so I assume she got married between 1870 and 1880. I cannot find her in the 1900 census listed under Knie so I am assuming she died before 1900. The will mentions the children of his daughter Lena Knie and the children of his daughter Catherine Neu (Nye). But in fact Catherine Nye didn't die until 1941 according to her tombstone. Anyone researching a Knie family (spelling could be wrong in the Will of her father)
Most records for Catholic Churches are not microfilmed for public display since there are often private notes/comments that are recorded regarding the father or mother of the child. You will find that most Catholic Churches are very guarded when it comes to allowing other people page through the books/registers. Usually, you will have to wait for the parish secretary to find the time to do the Research. And depending on the size of the parish and time of year it is, it may take some time for the secretary to get to the request. -----Original Message----- From: palackaw-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:palackaw-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Lenora Mulock Sent: Tuesday, December 11, 2007 7:25 AM To: palackaw@rootsweb.com Subject: [PALACKAW] Catholic church records in Lackawanna Co Does anyone know if the records for the Archdiocese have been microfilmed? Lenora, You might want to contact The Family History Center in Salt Lake City. They might be able to tell you. I too wish they would microfilm these records. St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church - German - (West Scranton) was formally closed October 2004. In the early 1990s, St. John the Baptist Church was merged with St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church (Jackson Street, West Scranton). All records, including baptismal, marriage, death, and cemetery records are currently held at St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church. The cemetery records, however, are not the best. The "German" cemetery would appear to be part of Cathedral Cemetery, although it is under the care of St. Patrick's. > From: slh50@msn.com> To: palackaw@rootsweb.com> Date: Mon, 10 Dec 2007 12:47:28 -0500> Subject: [PALACKAW] Two other cemeteries within Cathedral> > > This Sept. Sacred Heart Church in Jermyn was established as a territorial parish in 1889. Previous to that the people of Jermyn could have gone to St. Rose of Lima in Carbondale (established 1832) or St. Thomas Aquinas in Archbald (established 1858) - both territorial (largely Irish) parishes. Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Mayfield was established in 1905 as a Polish Parish. -----Original Message----- From: palackaw-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:palackaw-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Sandy Doyle Sent: Sunday, December 09, 2007 6:38 PM To: palackaw@rootsweb.com Subject: [PALACKAW] Catholic Church 1894 Can someone tell me what Catholic Church was running around 1894 in or around Jerymn Pa. They did so, and provided me with a map to show where the burial sites were located. These were not on Walt's list: Harry McCann and his wife, Stella Connolly McCann, and their two children (my father's first cousins) Frank and Helen McCann (unmarried brother and sister). Thank you very much. Although my ggrandfather, Dominick Gilmartin, a puddler, didn't live in the South End (not that I know of), he was listed in 1870 as working in the Rolling Mill and living on Hemlock St. There was also a John Gilmartin working as a Puddler, working at the New Rolling Mill in 1873. I wish I knew if they were related. I read the article through but their names weren't listed. I enjoyed all the information anyway. Thank you for all your work. Hello list.. Most of my family research has been in NY and this is my first step into PA. I don't know what resources are available. I am looking for death date , obit, and or death cert for Joseph Kostala, born Aust./Hungary abt 1868, and wife Annie ( Ovat) Kotsala born about 1875. Joseph is listed as a city constable. In the 1910 census they are living on fourth St. in Scranton.with ix children (Joseph, George, Peter, Mary Annie) The draft registrations for the boys in 1918 show that they are at 617 Alden St. in Scranton. Listing their mother as closest relative. I assume that means that father Joseph died between the 1910 census and 1918. Are there any on-line resources that can get me started?? David North Carolina
