    3. Hi Cheryl, I received a "No Record Certificate" from the State of Pennsylvania for my father who was born in Scranton in 1913. I didn't get that either. Then, I thought perhaps he was not registered in PA but in Ireland where his parents were born. I haven't done the research on that yet. I did apply for my "Irish Citizenship by Descent" using the "No Record Certificate" and backing it up with his Baptismal record. I called the State of PA and asked about the certificate. The "No Record Certificate" has all my father's info on it and has the State seal. Go figure... Good luck! :) Rita On 1/21/08 12:01 AM, "palackaw-request@rootsweb.com" <palackaw-request@rootsweb.com> wrote: > > > Today's Topics: > > 1. 3. Thanks for your reply. I understood that there was a gentleman that was now running the Historical Society, believe that he took over a year or so ago. Also, was not aware that the society had death records. Perhaps I need to see what I can find out. 3. For births from 1893 to 1906, neither Carbondale or Scranton's Board of Health reported their registrations to Lackawanna County. The county registrations are what was reported toi the state for that time period, so the state would not have them either. Scranton's were saved and are available through LDS covering 1878-1905. 3. I sure have, but it's my mother, and she was born in Scranton on 9/14/27. The story she's been told is that there was a fire and records were lost. I think that there's a problem with the date she thinks she was born. The 1930 Census shows her as being born in May (and her middle name is May, by the way), but she celebrates her birthday in September. We're going to have a devil of a time getting the new i.d. for her. However, I don't know what to tell you. Maybe someone on this list knows of this supposed fire. That could be the source of your problems. Best wishes, Lynda Jones Bloomsburg, PA _____ . 1. [PALACKAW] CURTIS family in Carbondale and Scranton
    2. Mike Matthews
    3. Dear all Two of my great-great-grandfather's brothers emigrated from Chewton Mendip, Somerset, England to PA in the late 1870s. Hippisley CURTIS b1853 lived in Scranton and Charles CURTIS b1861 lived in Carbondale. I believe Hippisley married but I don't know the identify of his wife; Charles married Kate c1886 and had ten children, only six of which I know about - Charles, Philip, Ethel, Niles, Omer and Pearl. I don't know when either Hippisley or Charles died, or Charles's wife Kate or their children, though Kate is shown as a widow in 1910. I have found Hippisley in the 1910 census, Charles in the 1900 census and the widowed Kate in the 1910 census, but have not found them in any other censuses. There is an Ipsley Curtis shown in Luzerne, PA born England 1857 in the 1900 census but I can't access this record. I'd like to find out who Hippisley married and also a marriage record for Charles and Kate. I'd like to find birth records for Charles and Kate's children, including the ones I know nothing about, and also death records for Hippisley, Charles and Kate. Of course it would be brilliant to find living descendants of Charles and Kate, but I realise that's a trifle optimistic! I live in the UK so accessing US records is difficult, though I'd be happy to pay for a researcher to do some work on my behalf. Any help/advice/info would be much appreciated. best wishes Mike Matthews Bristol, UK

    2. in the 1900 census the Ispley Curtis is a boarder at 132? (hard to read house #) W. Ridge Street in the Naticoke Borough of Luzerne. Date of birth looks like Jan. 1857. Widowed. 1. Re: [PALACKAW] Robert JONES - Lackawanna - 1910
    2. Well...depends on how you look at things. How positive are you that whoever talked to the census taker knew his age? Or that he remembered it right? Or that you're right about it? This guy immigrated 1884; was a miner; Born March 1857, pe 1900 census; married 28 yrs per 1910 census; Did he have an uncle William? 1880 census, possibly in Shenandoah, Schuylkill, Pennsylvania. Any of that sound familiar? Ancestry.com has the US census online as well as some of the English ones. (A month's subscription is probably pretty cheap now that the dollar is in the toilet.) They way they calculate ages, you should check at least 1 year on either side, and maybe more.
