Tom, and anyone else!!! Great work, Tom, I found three wills who, I am, sure are "of family". Is there a way to access the wills without the contribution of $75 to the Register of Wills?? LDS??? Thanks and regards, George Gilliland Interests: WILLIAMSON, MARSHALL
Looking for information/connections RUANE/ROWAN families from Ireland to Virginia/West Virginia and then to Scranton, PA. John and Ann ROWAN/RUANE c 1835 came from Ireland and settled in Ritchie Co Virginia (which later became Ritchie Co West Virginia). While there they were blessed with at least 3 chilren Peter c 1858, Michael J. c 1851-1859 and Thomas 1865. Appears John the senior died abt 1870 in Scranton as their son John the younger was born c 1869 in Scranton. Mother Ann RUANE/ROWAN is found as early as 1870 in Luzerne/Lackawanna Co Scranton, PA with the 3 children. Michael J. RUANE married Bridget GERRITY/GERAGHTY and raised their family in Scranton. Michael J. RUANE was a well known City Firemand in Scranton Please contact Walton J. Sullivan at wsullivw@aol.com **************Need a new ride? Since most of the children probably married before 1914, it is not likely to find the mother's maiden name from the marriage license application. If you have a death date for John Josephus Griffiths from Dunmore cemetery, you should be able to obtain her name from his death certificate. It could also be in his obit. Death certificates (after 1905) can be obtained from the PA Dept of Health, Bureau of Vital Records, in New Castle, PA. www.health.state.pa.us/vitalrecords If you don't have a date of death, Dunmore cemetery does answer queries via e-mail, visit their web page for more information. ----- Original Message ----- From: "ELLA MOSS" <cinderella8013@yahoo.com> To: <PALACKAW@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, April 27, 2008 10:13 AM Subject: [PALACKAW] (no subject) Hi I am trying to find any info on my husbands family. I am searching for the Edward Dean family in Archibald 1910 living with his wife Alice, children ,Catharine, Austin and two step children Alice and Mary Barrett. Any info. on the Barrett and Dean family would be great. thanks Sandy sddoyle@frontiernet.net
Hello List, I have posted here before in attempts to find information about my McDonough/Barrett roots in Scranton, PA. I have been mostly unsuccessful....so I thought I might try a different direction. After visiting Scranton, and viewing city directories, I found that there was a Thomas McDonough living on Moosic St. through the 1940's. My great grandfather's had a brother named Thomas who was born in Wales April 1866. He and his wife Anne live on Moosic Street in Scranton. They had about 8 children including a son named Thomas born around 1900.....this may have beeen the Thomas living on Moosic in the'40's. Is there any information out there on death certificates, etc on either of these men? Thanks, Diana Virginia

i forgot to put a subject in my last posting and i also realized that i entered some wrong info. I put that John and Laura were buried in the Dunmore Cemetery but it is in fact John Josephus (Jasphus) Griffiths and his wife Elizabeth who were buried in the Dunmore Cemetery. Sorry for the errors. Hello Lynn, My guess is that Catherine might have took sole ownership of the store at that time. Perhaps, her husband had died. Maybe that property transaction was the bone of contention. What began your search of Jackson St. Baptist was someone in your family told you the property was connected with your family, as I understood it. Perhaps, another generation. The immigrants did come in generations. Also, the "Joseph Fellows" name might be in your family tree somewhere -- a sister of a Clapp who married Mr. Fellows? The joint ownership of the property would tell me that there is some connection between Clapp and Fellows. Barbara In a message dated 4/24/2008 3:04:43 A.M. Since I live in Tennessee and can't get to the property records, is there anyone or group who can check on the property records to see who the church bought the property from. I know the store was there in 1896 and I think they were there in 1900. When my g-grandmother passed away in 1914, the church was there as they held a funeral service for her at the church. I need to know who owned the property from 1896 - to whenever the church purchased the property. Several years ago I wrote to the church but never received a reply. The Jackson St. Baptist Church is now on this site. I don't know if my g-grandparents owned the property or rented. Depending on the results, I will know whether or not to check for a will for my g-grandfather and/or g-grandmother. I do remember my grandmother mentioning some family problems and the deposition of the estate could have been the basis. Any help received is appreciated. ===================== From: BWT3783@aol.com Hello Lynn, Just "listening" in to your message. The Jackson Street Church has been standing for a long time! I believe the ground was purchased about the time you are speaking of, or maybe prior. My family attended the church. The side of the property that faces Hyde Park Avenue has no building on it. It is just a grassy park-like lot. Perhaps the church was there when your family's grocery store stood at the corner? My grandfather also owned a grocery store about 1912-1922, on Washburn Street. Maybe they were competitors! Good luck and happy hunting.
