    3. I don't know anything about Hyde Park and Shady Lane but my parents are buried in Abington Hills Cemetery and when I was up there in October I noticed the cemetery was fixed up (grass cut, etc.). It had been in terrible shape since the former owner absconded with the funds. We had paid for perpetual care and it hadn't been taken care of for several years. The name of the cemetery is officially The Hyde Park Cemetery though, I believe. You can get information on people buried there through the Charles Rader Insurance Company. Chick Rader is the owner of the Hyde Park, Shady Lane, and Abington Hills Cemeteries. He bought them from Jack Rogan who was indicted for mis-using the funds from the cemeteries while he owned them. > > > ==== PALACKAW Mailing List ==== > Visit the Lackawanna County, PA Archives http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/pa/lackawp.html > To unsubscribe: http://www.rootsweb.com/~palackaw/index.html#MailingList > >

    3. Iva, My grandfather, Daniel Wert Kembel, is buried in City Cemetery in Wilkes Barre. There is no office there anymore and I am trying to find out where his wife, Julia Foulds Kembel, is buried. There is no marker for her near his grave (I was just up there in May) but I went to the Cemetery next door and they said records for City Cemetery are at the Public Works Department in Wilkes Barre. Would you be able to look up that name some time in Wilkes Barre? I would really appreciate it. I would assume she is buried in the same cemetery he is but I don't know for sure. She died in 1911. City Cemetery is another cemetery that is in very bad shape. 2. Dear Anne, The Northeast Pennsylvania Genealogical Society just put out a four volume index of burials in St. Mary's Cemetery recently. Do you have any information on how they did it? I would be happy to help with an index of Cathedral Cemetery, but I don't think I have the knowledge of how to go about doing it without assistance. Who would you contact? Does the Diocese of Scranton have to OK it? Iva Hanlon

    3. Evelyn This was one of the most important infos I have received. I cannot thank you enough for the valuable site and info on my gg gf. I cried when I read his name. This happened so long ago, that Lackawanna Co had not been established. I have not be able to get to Luzerne Co Courthouse for the records. This is the first piece of info I have on John Harris. This was a very sad story for our family. John and Mary Harris came from Wales in 1862 to Scranton, then on to Ohio. When they returned to Avondale after a strike in the mines, they were 24 years old and had four children. Mary's fifth child was born in Jan 1870, little Margaret never knew her father who died at Avondale. Even with this sadness, I noticed many others who lost father and as many as three sons. Heartbreaking!! This is the first piece in the puzzle for this limb of my tree. Thanks for getting me started. 2. Would anyone be interested in doing for Cathedral Cemetery what Richard Reese has offered to do for Washburn? That is, build a data base from members' contributions of cemetery records/gravestone readings? I don't want to be the point person on this, but would love to see it done, contribute the few items I have, maybe do some cemetery walks in coordination with others when I'm in the area, etc. I'm assuming this stuff does not exist elsewhere, but would be happy to learn if I'm mistaken. Anybody interested? Anne Tullar Anne Tullar

    2. Robert, "political hacks?" The fact that the father of a notable person is in Washburn is not a political. I won't comment on my feelings for the former first family but lets not gag people, no be uncivil on commenting on historical issues and burial of notable people.
