Hi Mary, I grew up in Kingston. At one time the Lewis family lived in a row of houses that was behind us. I believe the address for that property was Main Street, Kingston. That time period would have been the 40's. I remember the younger one was called Junior or Junie Lewis. I think he played football. The row house where they lived was always referred to as the veranda. It isn't possible to get the census records for the 1950 census. The 1930 census will be released this year. They are released after 70 years. Liz Bartle Long Island, New York

Different states do different things concerning public educators and social security. Here in Texas where I know work as a school librarian, we do not pay into Social Security. In Pennsylvania in the 1970's through 1980's we paid both teacher retirement and social security. Gayle
Spellman Ct. is in Ward 7 and runs parallel to Capouse Ave. Walnut street intersects them and runs through wards 7 & 9, dividing the 1100 and 1200 blocks of Capouse. Somewhere near there (and I am not sure exactly where, Walnut or Larch) the 13th Ward starts. If you don't find it in the 7th ward, try the 13th. -----Original Message----- From: Robbyn Wolf <robbynwolf@qwest.net> To: richreese@fast.net <richreese@fast.net> Date: Monday, July 16, 2001 1:44 PM Subject: Lackawanna Co. I can't seem to find the address in either ED#97. I suspect it is in the same ED as 1100 block of Spellman and 150 Walnut St. - Any help would be greatly appreciated. Catherine, I tried to send the following message directly to you but it came back with user unknown. Hi, I just saw your listing for her. I have material on her parents and siblings but none on her or the Coulthard family. I am related to her on the Fitzsimmons/Burke side. The mother of Bea Gilroy (1891 - 1971) who married William Fitzsimmons (1890 - 1968) was Anna Burke (1857 - 1928). If you would like my information on the Fitzsimmons side I'd be glad to send it to you. Most of the research was done by Mary Judith Voinski Juiliano. I noted that there was a pocket watch listed for sale on www.ebay.com. The face has the words "Burr - Carbondale, PA" imprinted on it. The eBay number is 1616331763, auction ends 7/19 at 14:17PDT.
May I add my two cents worth? I know my father was not eligable for Social Security because he was self employed. It was not until about 1954 that he was allowed to apply. MargeB

The "Hyde Park" cemetery could be Washburn Street Cemetery. I think the Hyde Park Cemetery Co owned the place at one time. Located at about 1900 Washburn Street. Records are kept by Rader Ins. Co Lackawanna Ave. Scranton, (Greg Graziano) who now own the site. Would anyone know if Hyde Park Cemetery records are kept at Cathedral Cem.? And where is Hyde park located? Most of my husband's relatives are buried at Cathedral. But I recently discovered that some of the children (who died as infants) are buried at Hyde Park. Is there a separate section for children? The really odd thing is that only one child is buried with the parents at Cathedral. The others are at Hyde park. Sandy Dunleavy
Hello, I am researching a Cole family that lived in the Providence Section of Scranton. Mainly, Clarence and Maime Cole that lived on West Market Street. Their son, Frank, married my great-aunt Anna Shields. Any connection? Unfortunately, many of the grave markers in the old part of the cemetery are broken and or unreadable. My great grandparents and a great uncle (killed in a breaker accident in 1874, age 11) are buried there, but no records remain. Paul bradican
