    3. Kathleen, Stafford did indeed become Cedar in Minooka. I struggled with the same problem for a long time. I finally found proof of the change in a deed...please don't ask me to dig it out. 3. Hi! Does anybody on the list know if Stafford Street in Lackawanna Township, Minooka may have been changed to Cedar Avenue when the Township was merged with Scranton? The reason I ask is that my father and grandfather (McGrath/McGraw) were raised in the 2600 block of Cedar Ave in Minooka (Scranton). Per family lore, this property was purchased in 1890's. But, there is no 2600 block of Cedar Ave, in the 1900 census and I have found people in the 1900 census with the same name as my ancestors (Lydon) on Stafford Street in Lackawanna Township, Minooka. Unfortunately, I do not know the birthdates of these people so I have no other way to confirm they are indeed my ancestors. Thanks in advance for any feedback on this. 2. The neighborhood is fine...quiet and clean. Parking at meters along the street...in front of the Library on Vine St. is restricted to an hour, but along the side streets (Washington Avenue) along the High School, one can park for 25 cents per hour.

    2. Richard M. Reese
    3. Gypsy Grove would be the correct spelling of the location. Remember that names and locations would be spelled phonetically. The transcribers of the 1910 soundex had a lot of trouble when they typed up their cards as well :). An article on the April 1911 fire at the Gypsy Grove appears on the PA Lackawanna page under mining history. -----Original Message----- From: Kathryn L. 3. Would someone please help determine the correct spelling for a Street name taken from the 1910 census? [ED 24, SD 5, Pg. 30, Line 23 - Borough of Dunmore]. Street name looks like GAPSY Grove. My ggf was killed in the GIPSEY Grove mines. Are GAPSY Grove Street and GIPSEY Grove Mines one in the same as far as the spelling is concerned? Kay

    1. [PA-LAC] Family Tree File
    2. bruthj209
    3. Dear List: If anyone out there has Family Tree Maker and has had trouble with their file, I would like some help. When I go into Index of Names and type a name in the empty space and then hit o.k. I get another box to type the name and then I get "No Match Found". Family Tree gave me a set of instructions to fix a damaged file with 5 items and I have donel 4 items. When I come to item 5, it is to Export to GEDCOM and then Import to GEDCOM. The first 4 items don't fix the problem, but item 5 seems very complicated. It also deletes any scrapbook items you have. Before I do it, I just wondered if anyone else had ever done this procedure. I have already backed up my file to a floppy so if there is a problem and I lose everything at least I will have a copy. The only problem I seem to have with the file is in the index part. This list is so great with everything, I am sure someone out there can help me. Barbara

    3. Hello List, My Stepfather is 96 years old in Aug and I would love to find out something about his family. He was born around 1905 , his name is CHARLES C.JOHNSON, S/O/ Charles William Johnson and Edith Wilson. Edith died when he was a little boy and his Dad died when he was about 13. He finished school and went to see the world, graduation from George Town University in Washington D.C. with a degree in Micro -Biology. He moved to Ala. to work for the state and was Dir. of Health for N.Alabama. His grandfather was Abraham Wilson and ?????? Singer. Abraham paid $300/.00 to stay out of the Civil War. Does anyone know of an existing list. They had the following children: Carrie mar. Wilson Waters, brothers : John, Charlie and sister Edith mar. Charles W.Johnson. about 1900-1904. I am sorry that there are no dates but my stepfather does not remember. I assume that Abraham was at least 16-20 at the beginning of the Civil War. and that his daughter was about 20 when she married so she was probably born in he 1880's. (since Charlie was born in 1905.) His people are buried in Clarke Green Cemetery. Any info would be appreciated They lived in the Waverly area of Lackawana. I would also be interested in any pictures of school children in the Waverly twsp. ( I am totally unfamiliar with this area, please forgive me if the terminology is wrong.) 1907 to 1920 Thanks again. C.J. Williams

    1. [PA-LAC] Matilda (Griffin) Slocum/Wilkes-Barre
    2. Kristen Frederick
    3. I am looking for information on Matilda Griffin (b. May 4th 1799). She married Benjamin Slocum in 1819...she also married Jacob Niman. She is probably related to four Griffins who moved to the Lackawanna area in the late 1700s/ early 1800s. Stephen Griffin moved in 1794 (Lutze's Fordway area) from Westchester Co., NY followed by Thomas Griffin in 1811, James Griffin in 1812 and Joseph and Isaac Griffin in 1816. Isaac Griffin was born in 1756 and died in Nicholson, PA in 1827. If anyone has ANY info on any of these Griffins please contact me. Thank you.

    3. Chris check out http://www.albright.org They have information For deaths that occurred in Scranton between 1878 and 1905 The index and records are on microfilm, fortunately the film is self-serve. You should be able to pack on the street close to the library, there is metered parking. --- Chris Hendrickson <chendrickson@cfl.rr.com> wrote: > I will be flying into NYC and my cousin is will to > drive me to Scranton > where I want to check out the library for Death > records locatated at the > Scranton Public Library.
