I am researching my Great Grand Uncle who was a lawyer in Scranton. I would be interested in learning more. M J Williams DAVID W. BROWN He was born in Lathrop township. Early in life he taught school in the country, and later attended school at Keystone academy, where after his graduation he was retained as teacher of Penmanship. He later entered Colgate university and graduated there in 1882. Mr. Brown studied law with Little & Allen at Montrose, was admitted to the bar in 1885. He practiced law for five years, then relinquished practice to accept the Principalship of Keystone Academy. After 3 yrs he became partner in a law firm in Scranton where he had a large and remunerative practice. He married MARY L. Hi, I would like recommendations about obtaining actual deeds once I have the information from the deed index. The transactions are prior to 1878 so the actual deeds would be in the Luzerne County courthouse (from what I understand). I checked the films at the FHC and I would have to order 6 different microfilms to get all of the deeds I am interested in. This is a possibility, although it would require a 2 trips to a FHC and there are none too close to my home. Has anyone actually ordered deeds right from the courthouse once they have the index information? Is this even something that you can do? Does anyone know what it would cost or how long it would take? I am trying to decide which to do. Any recommendations? Thanks, Carol

Catherine, Doubt if our John McCarthy would have married a woman that much younger, but he could have had a son that age. Unfortunately, I don't know any more about any of the McCarthy's, except for Joseph, who was my grandfather. He died young & my mother lost touch with the rest of the McCarthy family. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Catherine Hoffman" <katy@lhi2.net> To: <PALACKAW-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, August 07, 2001 4:59 PM Subject: Re: [PA-LAC] KIN > THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ANSWERING > DON'T KNOW WHEN JOHN MC CARTHY WAS BORN --GRACE WAS BORN 1894 THEIR CHILDREN > WERE: GERALD AND CHARLENE > COULD BE MORE.
