My recollection is that there are two sets of books---Grantors------and ----Grantees They are sort of Alphabetical in that the A's are altogether and the B's and so on, but they are in date order within the Main Alpha heading-------So one book might cover 1920 to 1923 in this manner------It takes getting used to the recorders handwriting also---It's time consuming, but interesting work---have fun "Garthe L. Is anyone familiar with the Woolworth Estate, my step-father lived across the road from the walled estate and was telling me about the fireworks display on the fourth of July. Is it still there?? Keep in mind this was a long time ago, he left the area in 1922 at the age of 17. Anyone with info. on Charles W. Johnson and Edith Wilson, one child born 1905, Aug 25. Charles C. Johnson. Present age 96 on Friday. C.J. Williams
Ruth, Thanks for the info. I sent them off a letter yesterday. And to a UM church in Shickshinny. My ancestor may have died in Lee, PA. Hello All, From when to when was the Providence Register in publication? Garthe Benjamin in NJ
My mother was born in 1917 and attended Technical High School in Scranton. Does anyone have the street address for this school?
Amy, I'm about to begin my own search for land records. Can you give me some pointers as to the best way to go about it? Are they indexed alphabetically by name and then date? Appreciate any info you can give me. Donna I think this mine may be Hyde Park Mine, or Diamond Shaft. TheOxford Mine was also in Hyde Park, but nearer to Main Ave. I'm going to Scranton tomorrow and I will call the Anthracite Museum. I have not received any response to two postings. Someone please e-mail me back that the messages are going through. Thanks
Shawn, Thanks for remembering. I have not received the Deed I was looking for to date. The property address is 1037 Oak Street and the family name is Moran (most likely Patrick named as owner). I believe they lived in that home as early as 1883 or thereabouts and the house remained in the family until some time in the 1940s or 50s (possibly even later). I have traced the 11 children of Mary and have most of their information, but she is my problem. I am curious about her (and her parents, etc.) because obit lists her as "one of the best known and most highly respected residents of this section". While I know it was her family who probably gave this information, as I said before they most have based it on something other than their love for her. I remember my great aunt telling me that she (mary) died of blood poisoning and they would bleed her and hang her upside down to try to drain the poison. Aren't you happy modern medicine has made the strides it has?! If you get a chance while you are there and can get me a copy of the Deed great, if not don't worry. I know how quick the time goes when you are there. I have been down twice and still have not gotten everything I need. I'd be happy to reimburse you for any costs related. Thanks, and good luck in your research efforts. I monitor lists for Luzerne, Lackawanna, and Wyoming counties and this is the first that I have seen your request. Dupont was not incorporated until after 1910. You need to look at Pittston township - ED's 97 and 98 on roll 1368 for coverage of that area. -----Original Message----- From: Jerry Rosky <grgolfer@ucnsb.net> To: PALACKAW-L@rootsweb.com <PALACKAW-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Tuesday, August 21, 2001 9:37 AM Subject: [PA-LAC] Dupont >I know Dupont Boro is located in Lucerne county, but my posting inquires on >the Lucerne web site have gone unanswered.
