Shawn, I think you're mixing Tech up with North Scranton Junior High School. North was on North Main Avenue at the top of Green Ridge Street. The building is still there but it's being made into apartments (by Goodwill, I believe). Tech is located at 721 Adams Avenue, between Pine & Gibson Streets. Patti I spoke with Tom Price today. He mentioned there may be answers at the Anthracite Museum. They do have fatality reports and "Serious mining accidents". I can't hurt to ask them. Hello List, Thanks so much to the ones that replied to me concerning the Woolworth estate. I have been doing some Google searching and have been sent some sites that gave me pictures and I do appreciate your info. I have never been in your area but what I have seen , I would love to come and visit. Maybe I will someday. Can anyone tell me if there is a record of the Civil War era concerning those that paid to stay out of the Civil War?? Abraham Wilson, my step-fathers grandfather did just that and my stepfather has told me of it several times. By the way yall grow them fine in Lackawana Pa, Charlie Johnson, my stepfather is a very fine individual,,whom we dearly love. Your rebel friend C.J. Williams
I have a Joseph O'Donnell born abt 1881 inPenn. living at 313 Pittston Ave. with wife Mary. anyone know his wife's maiden name? Lenora from Wisconsin
I have a Carl Miller born abt 1878 in Penn. living at 321 Pittston Ave. in Scranton. Anyone researching this line? Lenora from Wisconsin
I have a Patrick Murphy born abt 1883 with wife Agnes (Dippre) with children William, Robert, Eugene, Charles and Janet in the 1920 census they are living on Pittson Ave in Scranton. Anyone researching this family? Lenora from Wisconsin
I've come across a William & Mary BURKE in the 1920 census for Scranton (pg. 16; ED #96) and was wondering if they might be the William BURKE & Mary DODANE BURKE that I am looking for. Here is what I know: William BURKE, age 21 m. Mary DODANE, also age 21, on August 26, 1903. At the time, William was living on 2145 Durkin Ave. Mary, who was born in Dickson City, was living at 2812 S. Main. >From the 1920 census, which was taken on January 4, 1920, the following is listed: William Burke, Head, age 37 Mary Burke, wife, age 37 William Burke, son, age 15 Romaine Burke, daughter, age 13 John Burke, son, age 11 Mary Burke, daughter, age 10 Irene Burke, daughter, age 3 and 6/12 months Leo, son, age 11/12 months (11 mos. old) Address looks like it is listed as either 404 or 409 Leggett Street. The home was listed as owned by the BURKEs and it had a mortgage attached to it. What makes me think these are my BURKES is: 1. Both William & Mary are the same age in the census. When my William & Mary married they were the same age, 20, and after almost 17 years of marriage they would have been just about 37 years old. 2. Their son, William, age 15, appears to have been born in 1904, which is very possible, since William & Mary were married on August 26, 1903. 3. Mary Burke's maiden name is "DODANE" which, as far as I can determine is French. In this census, thie particular Mary BURKE's father is listed as being born in France. Would there be anyone out there who could help me verify that these are indeed my BURKEs and would anybody out there be connected to them? William BURKE is the brother of my great-grandmother, Theresa BURKE MCGUIRE. Their parents are Albert BURKE & Mary FARRELL. Thanks for your assistance. Take care, Jamie O'Brien
Had to share this. We hear from each other on this page all the time. It is so nice to actually meet one of the people. Of course I know Gayle Thorpe Baar and Rich Reese. Today, I accidentally bumped into Shawn Presner. We had a great conversation while we did research. Great to finally put a face with a name. Hope to meet more of you. Tom Price
The Woolworth house is still there. It is in the 500 block of Jefferson Ave. Some years ago after the Woolworths moved out or whatever, it became the nursing school for Mercy Hospital. Neither is there now. The lawn of the estate is where the CYC is now, on the corner of Vine and Jefferson. Tom Price
Looking for information on a Mary Rosar Haas who died after 1920. Need death information if anyone is researching Haas. Lenora from Wisconsin

Glen, My mother checked my father's records and found that as a Marine, my father enlisted through Philadelphia, but then was sent to Cherry Point, North Carolina for training before he was sent to the South Pacific. She also has a sort of yearbook or class book from Cherry Point. Do you know what year your cousin Harry Jones first went in? If I know by Saturday, I will be able to look and see if your cousin was there at the same time. Laura Tyler Yuba City, Ca
