    1. What is Covinton Fencibles
    2. Mary H. Cole
    3. What is "Covinton Fencibles" ? It was not the result of the Civil War " The Covinton Fencibles was first organized by Himan S Travis in 1845 and in 1846 they held their first meeting at George Treible's Hotel located in Daleville, Luzerne Co, Pa." " Isaac Silfee was one of the charter member of the Covinton Fencibles. William Silfee joined in 1849 and Benjamin Silfee joined in 1853" I believe Isaac Silfee was actually the step son of George Silfee, Isaac Safford. This area became became Lackawanna Co when it was formed in 1878

    2. Ruth and James, There's already been some research done on the Welsh in Scranton and a book written by William D. Jones and published on behalf of the HIstory and Law committee of the Board of Cletic Studies of the University of Wales. It was published jointly by the University of Wales Press and the University of Scranton Press and printed in Wales by Dinefwr Press and in the US by the University of Scranton. The title of the book is Wales in America: Scranton and the Welsh 1860-1920. Gayle http://hometown.aol.com/gtbaar/myhomepage/profile.html

    3. Hi Ruth. Yes please, I would like the telephone no, off list is OK. Best Regards James. [email protected] wrote: James, there used to be a Teague Funeral home, I believe in West Scranton, where there were quite a few Welch residents. I looked under the 2002 Directory, and they are not listed anymore. There is one Teague still listed in the book, but no address other than Scranton. There is a phone number listed, which I can give you privately if you want it. 2. The Genealogists Psalm Genealogy is my pastime, I shall not stray. It maketh me to lie down and examine half-buried tombstones. It leadeth me into still courthouses; It restoreth my ancestral knowledge. It leadeth me in paths of census records & ship's passenger lists for my surname's sake. Yea, though I walk through the shadows of research libraries & microfilm readers, I shall fear no discouragement. For a strong urge is within me; the curiosity & motivation they comforteth me. It demandeth preparation of storage space for the acquisition of countless documents. It annointeth my head with burning mid-night oil; my family group sheets runneth over. Surely birth, marriage, & death dates shall follow me all the days of my life; And I shall dwell in the house of a family- History seeker forever. By Wildamae Brestal

That's a great idea! I'm trying to find my husband's Welsh family - Richards, who came over from Wales, but don't know when or from where. Ruth

    3. Hi Steve. Many thanks for coming back with your info. Most of it I already have, its moving on after the 1930 census my main quest now is, searching for living relatives of George and William, I am also hoping that one or two son's had more son's, so the name Teague is still in use today. Best Regards. James. Bridgend Glamorgan Wales. Steve Swales <[email protected]> wrote: George, apparently alone, name spelled Tague, and William & Margaret, with children William and Sarah are in the 1870 census in Scranton. William Jr. was born about 1867 in PA, so they evidently came before that. Mary A. and her children are in the 1871 census, still in Wales (Begelly, Pembrookshire). Their son James is living separately, working as a farm labourer. So, it appears that George & William & Margaret came before 1867, and Mary A. and the children came between 1871 and 1880. James Teague's record in the 1900 census says he came in 1880, however Mary Teague's record shows 1875. She is listed as born Feb 1833, married 40 years, with 6 children, only 2 living. George is living separately, as a boarder, born Sept 1828, listed as single. Perhaps they were divorced. He listed his immigration as 1869. All records show George as a boiler maker. Hope this helps. -steve james morgan wrote: >Hi Everybody. > >I am searching for relatives of my great grandfather’s two brothers who left Wales and settled in Scranton Pa. in the 1860/1870’s > >If you look at the US.1880 census for George Teague, born in 1828, Wales, Boiler Maker with wife Mary Ann born 1832 in Wales, the whole family shows up. > >The other brother William Teague {but is spelt as Teag in the census} born 1841, Wales, Blacksmith, with wife Margaret born 1843 also in Wales. > >As the name “Teague” is uncommon in Wales I am hoping that someone has information in their research and may have come across these families. > >Best Regards & Many Thanks > >James Teague Morgan > >Bridgend, Glamorgan. > >Wales. > > > >--------------------------------- > ALL-NEW Yahoo!
