    3. The procedures will vary depending upon your local library. The key is that you can tell them the source is the PA State Library in Harrisburg, PA. To check what is available, you can do a guided search for "newspapers" and the "city" or "county" on their web page. They will loan anywhere in the States. http://www.statelibrary.state.pa.us is their web page, click on Catalog/Pilot services, then the guided search tab. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Odin's Favorite One" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, February 26, 2005 7:23 PM Subject: Re: [PA-LAC] OBITUARY for MARY ANN THOMAS > Hi Richard, > Can you give me a walk threw of the PA State Library. > I tryed to figure out how to go about the loan of the newspapers, > But I don't think they loan out of state. > Sheri Nielsen > Maine,USA > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Richard M. 2. Richard M. Reese
    3. No relation that I am aware of. Being a keeper of Rees(e) information, it's hard to determine whether Thomas, William, or John is the most common christian name. There are sure a lot of them <g>! Thomas L. Rees married Susie Bannon, daughter of Isabella Wilson and James Bannon, English immigrants, on June 29, 1936. William E. Jones, the Justice of the Peace at West Pittston performed the ceremony according to the license, 644C, recorded in vol. 99 at Luzerne Co. Her birth place appears to be Albarna, but it is not fully legible, so I suspect it might be Alabama. The indication was that her previous husband was deceased in Nov. 1928. Thomas was the son of Frances A. Lyons and Benjamin F. Rees from the Blakely area and had a brother Bert D. Reese. Thomas's first wife was was Sarah Rolls, who died in Dec. 3, 1918. I list a dozen children from their marriage, and have 4 generations including his parents. BTW, a grandson, was Rev. James Reese, of the Walzer Bible Church; and the last I knew was in Gibson, PA, in Dec. 1998. Rev. Reese was the minister who performed the marriage ceremony of my cousin Carl and his wife Valeri. If you'd like to have their genealogy (as much as I've pieced together) just ask. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, February 26, 2005 1:44 AM Subject: Re: [PA-LAC] OBITUARY for MARY ANN THOMAS > Any relation to Thomas Reese, Scranton, PA. 3. Sheri I am pleased that this information fits the information I sent you. See also http://freebmd.rootsweb.com There is a possible marriage for Bezaleel THOMAS to Mary Ann RICHARDS in June Quarter 1852 Cardiff Vol. 11a Page 404. You can get confirmation that this marriage exists before you send for a certificate from http://home.clara.net/tirbach/GLA3.html#1837-1900%20Marriages%20in%20Glamorgan. I didn't send it before because I thought it was too distant but now may be worth an enquiry. 3. Scranton Republican, Thursday, May 16, 1901 pg 6 [Taylor news column]: Mary Ann, wife of Bezaleel Thomas of Main street, died at 1 o'clock yesterday afternoon, after several weeks illness, She was 68 years and 9 months old. She was born in Brynmawr, South Wales, and came to this country 40 years ago. She was a model little woman, full of care, of a kind and gentle disposition, always ready to do a good turn to her friends, and was one of the best of neighbors. Quiet, unassuming, and full of good will. She and her husband located at Pittston, where they lived for many years, and her friends at that place will testify as to her good character. As a Christion she was a devout member of the Welsh Baptist church, and a mother of Israel, always found at her church week nights and Sundays until her health failed. A husband and the following children survive her: Mrs. Elizabeth Havard, John H. Thomasn Mrs. Richard Howells, Willie and Evan Thomas, of this place. She also has one sister in Pittston, Mrs. Stephen Williams. The funeral will take place Saturday afternoon. Services at the house, conducted by Rev. D. C. Edwards and other pastors at 2 p.m. Interment at the Forest Home cemtery. Pittston papers please copy. <> Scranton Times, Monday, May 20, 1901, pg. 1 [Taylor news column]: Taylor, May 20 - The funeral of the late Mrs. Belazeel Thomas occurred from the family residence, on Main street, on Saturday afternoon and was attended by an unusual gathering of friends and relatives. Long before the appointed hour her late home was over-crowded with sympathizers and mourners, who had gathered to pay their last respects to the memory of the departed one, who in life was a woman of tender kindness, a devouted Christian and a kind and generous mother, and whose depatrure is sadly grieved by the sorrowing relatives and friends. The services were conducted at her late home at 2:30 o'clock and were very impressive. Rev. D. C. Edwards, pastor of the Welsh Baptist church, of which the deceased was a mos t faithful member, and Rev. H. H. Harris, of the Calvary Baptist church, officiated. The reverend gentlemen paid a deserving tribute to the memory of this model woman and delivered two eloquent sermons. The former preached in the Welsh language, and the latter in English. The Welsh Baptist church chior, under the direction of John R. Francis, rendered several familiar hymns, which were pathetic. There were a number of beautiful floral desins presented by relatives and friends. At the close of the services the remains were conveyed to the Forest Home cemetery, where interment was made. Among the out-of-town people who attended the obsequies were: Mrs. Charles Jones, of Hyde Park; Mrs. James Johns, of Duryea; Mrs. Thomas Williams, of Scranton; Mrs. Morgan Hopkins, of West Scranton; and Mrs. Samuel Jones, of South Scranton. <> [Note: Obit did not appear in the Scranton Times, and funeral summation was not run in the Republican.] ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sheri NIelsen" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, February 14, 2005 11:46 AM Subject: [PA-LAC] OBITUARY LOOK-UP NEEDED BEZALEEL THOMAS & MARY ANN THOMAS > Hello everyone, > > I'm in need of an obituary look-up for my GGG-Grandfather & GGG-Grandmother. > > BEZALEEL THOMAS b. 2. Hi Walt, Am looking for any connections to Isabelle Lavelle who married a James McCann somewhat late in life. As of late 90's, my aunt said Isabelle was still alive in some assisted living place in Scranton. She was cousin to my mother who was a LALLY. Bobbie Ingersoll

    3. I noticed in a recent notice that some ones family they were looking for lived on Meridian St in Scranton. My relatives lived on the same street and I was wondering if anyone else had family from Ireland living there and if they did, did they know where in Ireland their family came from. I have Gallaghers living at 233, 235 and 237 Meridian St and Rafters and Powells living in the same area. I believe it was called the Belleview section of Scranton. Thanks Bob Williams [email protected]

    3. Hi Walt... I'm not interested in the Diskin line but for your information, a Maggie Diskin stood up for My grand parents wedding (James H. Shea & Mary Ann Tuck) on the 27th of June 1893 at the Cathedral church in Scranton. In addition, a Diskin was the mother of my best friends when I was growing up, names Tom and Donald Joyce. I believe the Diskin family lived on Meridian Street and were related to the Harrington's who either lived with them or near them. They moved from railroad avenue in Bellevue to New York state in the 1940's or 50's. Some place around Binghamton. You also asked about the names of the other relatives that are listed in the Shea/Tuck bible. They are as follows: Benjamin Tuck died July 8 1894, 54 years old Francis Shea died Dec. 20, 1908, 1 year old Dorothy Shea died July 20, 1909 4 years old Mrs. James H Shea, Died Jan.12, 1927, 53 years of age Mildred Shea died Aug 11, 192???, 12 years of age Mrs. Mary Tuck died June 6, 1922 By the way Walt, was Sarah Gerrity related to your line? John Hannick was her nephew and I believe Mary Garrity Tuck was her sister. Hope this helps.
