I called them once too and they never got back to me. They said that the records were never straightened out by the new owner plus they had to know the name of the party that owned the grave site. The person I am looking for there died sometime between 1904 and 1913. It was a child and all the people I could ask about it are deceased, too. Carol
Hi Folks, I'm interested in finding a death notice for Dominick HOPE, who died in Carbondale on March 22, 1905, and was buried at St. Rose of Lima cemetery in Carbondale. He was born in IRE in 1840, was a Civil War veteran, married Margaret GORDON, was a resident of Carbondale from 1872 until the time of his death, and had a number of children there. This week marks the 100th anniversary of his death, and an obituary or death notice lookup would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help! Is anyone researching the Swift family of Dunmore? I'm looking for info on John Swift and wife Mary. They lived on Oak St in Dunmore 1900. Had children Bridget, Peter, Maggie, Katie, Mary, Annie, Ellie, and possibly more (Florence?). I believe this Bridget is my g-g-grandmother. I have 1880 and 1900 census but after that there sooo many Swifts! Thanks for any help. jho

He is a very nice fellow doing his best under very difficult circumstances. As you probably know Hyde Park, along with Shady Lance and oh gosh, one other, are in deep trouble with the former owner off in jail and the current company doing it's best to keep it's head above water. The problem is that the three cemeteries are full and as such do not earn an income and so must be supported by another cemetery. Liveing in Seattle it's an arms reach for me to do much in PA but I had thought that if there are Vets buried in these cemeteries, as I am sure they must be, then perhaps the various orgainzations like the Marine Corps. League, could help with clean up, orgainzation of paper work and a census of existing graves. Laurence Lance ALWAYS looking for my LANCE people

Peggy, You'll have to get that from the courthouse maybe someone going there will check for you if you put in a request. Try to narrow the time frame down as mush as possiable and include birth info. These records I believe have to be searched my hand so the smaller the time frame the better. Debby, Thanks so much for all the info on JACK GALLAGHER. Much appreciated. I guess my next step is to try to find a marriage to JANE STETZAR. Must have been around 1940/41 because their son John was born in 42. Thanks again. Peggy
Thomas B. CAREY (b. 1834, PA, son of Orra Carey and Maria (Kennedy) Gallop) m. ca. 1875 Ellen A. MUMFORD (b. 1839, Wayne Co., PA, dau. of Thomas L. Mumford and Eliza Kennedy). They lived in Scranton, PA, from at least 1880 until they died in the 1910s. (See 1880 census, PA, Lackawanna, Scranton, R 1138, p. 92B; 1900 census, Scranton, R 1420, ward 4, ED 56, p. 150A; 1910 census, Scranton, R 1359, ward 4, ED 68, p. 1A.) Ellen d. 30 June 1913, and Thomas d. 14 Dec. 1918, both in Scranton. I have posted transcriptions of their wills on my website, which is devoted to the descendants of David Kennedy and Eunice Lester of Mt. Pleasant, Wayne Co., PA. To view their wills, go to my website (http://PA-Kennedys.us), enter the database, search for Thomas Carey and Ellen Mumford, and click on the will links. (Both Thomas and Ellen were great-grandchildren of David and Eunice.) Queries: 1) Thomass will says he had a brother Henry (presumably Henry Carey), who had at least four children: Maris [Maria?], Harry, Olive and Winton. Does anyone know anything about this Carey family? Henrys son Winton may well be the Winton W. Carey b. in Apr. 1854 in PA of PA-born parents who married Angeline MNU and had at least 3 children. (See 1880 census, PA, Lackawanna, Carbondale, R 1137, p. 11B; 1900 census, Carbondale, R 1418, ward 5, ED 11, p. 211A; and 1910 census, Carbondale, R 1356, ward 5, ED 15, p. 223A). Henrys children Olive and Henry/Harry may be the ones found in neighboring households in Carbondale in 1870 (PA, Luzerne Co., Carbondale, R 1364, P. 278B). If so, they were born in about 1850 and 1852, respectively. That means their father Henry probably was born by about 1830, and he may have died between 1854 and 1870. (I have not yet found Henry in any census between 1850 and 1880.) 2) Thomass will says he had a sister Mary, who had a son named Thomas H. Carey. That suggests that Thomas B. Careys sister Mary (presumably Mary Carey, although it could be his half-sister Mary Gallop) married a man named Carey, and then had at least one child, Thomas H. Does anyone know anything about this Carey family? There is a Thomas H. Carey (b. in 1865 in PA of PA-born parents, single engineer) in Philadelphia in 1900 (R 1457, ward 13, ED 228, p. 242A). This could be the nephew Thomas B. named in his will.
Would greatly appreciate an obituary lookup for Howard BIRS who died in August 1974. His last known residence was in Jermyn but I don't know if he died there (maybe in hospital in nearby town). Also an obituary lookup for Susie N. BIRS who died Oct 14, 1992. Her last known address also in Jermyn. Thanks in advance. Pamela Birs Van Olden Birs, Oelkers, Tietjen, Terwilliger
Excepting that the church on Gaylord Ave. is in Plymouth (Luzerne Co.), PA; the "paplyhs" - in the address refers to the Plymouth Historical Society. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Odin's Favorite One" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, March 11, 2005 1:38 AM Subject: Re: [PA-LAC] WELSH BAPTIST CHURCH > Hi Ed, > Delilah <[email protected]>Gave me a link that eventually led me to > the following http://www.rootsweb.com/~paplyhs/PHS/ > > " In 1995 the Society was given the old Welsh Baptist Church on Gaylord > Avenue. There were only 3 Jack's in the area at the time, one was only a month old, one would have been 10 years her elder and was married to a Dorothy that leaves this one. With this you must know that censuses are not totally accurate and from year to year you will see variations in names, ages and places. But they are very good guides to know where and when to look for actual documents that can prove this. -------------------------------------------------------- 04-08-1930, Scranton, Lackawanna, PA Anthony Gallagher Head 40 PA Ire Wis Ethel Wife 40 Col Eng PA Jack Son 15 PA PA Col Anthony Son 13 PA PA Col They lived on Pittson Ave. ----------------------------------------------------- 01-17-1920, Scranton, Lackawanna, Pennsylvania Anthony Gallagher Head 30 PA Ire Ire Ethel Wife 28 Col Eng PA John Son 4 PA PA Col Ethel Daug 3 PA PA Col They lived on South Rebecca Ave. ------------------------------------------------------- 04-25-1910, 5-WD SCRANTON, Lackawanna, PA Michael Gallagher Head 68 Ire Ire Ire Michael Son 23 PA Ire Ire Anthony Son 20 PA Ire Ire Mary Sister 56 Ire Ire Ire Michael is a widowed and immigrated in 1866, Mary is single and immigrated in 1870. Hello, I was told the paperwork had disappeared sometime in the 1980's. My mother and Grandmother were strong members of the church and I attended Sunday school there as well. When I returned to visit, I was told no records were to be found. Left my name and address in case they found something, but no calls ever came. If you find anything, Please let me know.
