    1. Re: [PA-LAC] June Quinn
    2. I noticed the reference to my childhood dentist, Dr. John Quinn. Dr. Quinn had a very large family. One of his sons is Monsignor Joseph Quinn, currently the pastor of St. Peter's Cathedral in Scranton. He was a lawyer who later served as a local magistrate before entering the priesthood. I credit him with the cooperation I received when looking for some baptismal and marriage records from the Cathedral. One of the younger sisters is married to a Walsh and lives on Derby Avenue on the East Mountain in the city. I went to school with a sister, Susie, but she lives in the Philadelphia area. I can't speak for individuals in this family, but perhaps a note sent to the Cathedral would elicit a response from Monsignor. He is a great guy and very active in the community. Marybeth VW

    3. Looking for information/descendants or hopefully a death date (probably 1892-1900) and obit for Julia Ann (Hudson) McGOWTY/McGOUTY. Julia was born Aug 8, 1812 in Goshen, Orange Co. NY. Married Elisha McGowty by 1840. Lived in Wayne Co. PA through 1870. In 1880, a widow, Julia was in Fell Township, Lackawanna Co. PA, living with her son Elisha. 1892 Carbondale Directory lists Julia, a widow, boarding at 9 Dickson Hill, main resident Fanny Doolittle. Guessing this could be her daughter Fanny, born abt 1849. Children of Elisha & Julia (Hudson) McGowty: Jerusha A., Margaret C., John H., Amanda L., Mary A., Fanny H., Elisha. Thanks for any clues or information, Jean (Hudson) McNamara

    1. Scranton - Thomas, Hares, Williams
    2. Jeff Thomas
    3. Hello listers! I'm new to the group, so I thought a brief introduction would be appropriate. My name is Jeff Thomas, and my Welsh ancestors emigrated from Brynmawr, Wales to Scranton in 1848. John J. Thomas (1823-1875/6) and his wife Elizabeth Davies (1827-1896), lived on Hyde Park avenue and are buried in Washburn Street. They raised a family of 11 children in Scranton. At least one of their sons (Daniel) was killed in the Diamond mines, and their grandson (another Daniel) was a mine casualty in 1916 and was awarded the Carnegie medal for heroism. My other Welsh/Scranton ancestors include William C. Williams (1818-1888) and family from Bedwelty parish in Monmouthshire, and Civil War soldier George Hares (1838-1867), all buried at Washburn street. I have a couple of web sites dedicated to Brynmawr and Scranton. My Brynmawr, Wales site features quite a lot of town history, and several sets of records that should be of interest to family researchers. My site on Scranton features some history, a database of Washburn street burials, and information on the Avondale Disaster. A theme running through both sites is the close connection between Brynmawr and surrounding communities and Scranton. I hope to enjoy many pleasant conversations here and look forward to chatting with you all. Sincerely, Jeff Thomas Baltimore, MD Brynmawr, Wales http://thomasgenweb.com/brynmawr.html Thomas Genweb/Scranton http://thomasgenweb.com/thomas01.html
