    2. Hi, I am wondering if Jim O'Hara who wrote the post about street names in Scranton and Dunmore is any relation to a Eugene R. O'Hara from Dunmore, born 1919. For that matter, anyone reading these posts related to him? Bobbie Ingersoll

    3. I have had considerable success obtaining obituaries through Interlibrary Loan. I provide my library with a list of names and death dates and then they forward the request to the library in Scranton. Within a few weeks, the obituaries come back to the library. There was no charge to me. Subsequent to me doing this, I believe I read somewhere that the library will only provide obituary requests through interlibrary loan. As far as I know, you do need to provide the death date. Hope this helps. 3. As I slipped and stumbled through the darkness I suddenly felt myself falling. That is when I started to panic. I flailed around trying to grasp for anything that might slow my fall and then out of nowhere a hand caught hold of mine and stabilized what I knew would most certainly be my having been swallowed by the vast pit beneath me. My legs began kicking around as I tried to plant my feet on something solid and then suddenly my foot took hold. The hand held fast to my own and I clung to it praying that it would not let go as it drew me up ever so slowly and it enabled me to began to crawl out of what I considered would be my ever lasting tomb. Once I reached solid ground, a sliver of light shone through the walls of the cavern into which I had stumbled. That is when I caught hold of the shadow of the being that had held my hand throughout my whole perilous ordeal. As the words of gratitude began to stammer out of my trembling lips I tried to give thanks as best as I could to that someone who had given me such great assistance and brought me back to what I had thought would be my most certain doom. That is when the shadowy figure turned and began to fade into the darkness that surrounded both of us. As the figure moved away, I saw it's head turn and the words tumbled back to where I was left standing completely exhausted and shaking. "No problem, Mate. Always glad to help a fellow genealogist." 3. A more correct answer is that Stone Ave. was changed to SOUTH Webster Ave., which is in South Side ( Wards 12, 19 and 20). There is a North Webster which is in the Hill Section (Wards 17 and 10) and going into Dunmore beyond the 1000 block. Tom Price

    2. Kevin KENNY wrote a book entitled "Making Sense of the Molly Maguires" that I found helpful, amoung other things, to understand the position of Irish immigrants and coal miners in Ireland and Pennsylvania in the 1800's. Follow this link for an accurate synopsis : http://www.wsws.org/articles/1999/feb1999/mol-f19.shtml Also, I have had the pleasure to meet and talk with a gentleman named Howard T. CROWN, who knows the DIFINITIVE history of the so-called Mollies. He has a couple of books, but I would try "A guide to the Molly Maguires" Howard CROWN holds lectures upon request at various functions. Both of these books can be found at The Treasure Shop 44 Broadway, Jim Thorpe, PA 18229, 570-325-8380. The weekends in Jim Thorpe are a mojor tourist trap. 3. I am looking for a book on the Mollies that is accepted as the most accurate representation of what really happened. I am also looking for as much detail as possible; it would be great if it had some genealogy data on those accused of wrong doing. Recently I was driving-by Jim Thorpe (Maugh Chunk) and I exited the thruway to find a local book store. I had always thought the town would be a quite little village with older homes and some nice 19th century buildings. What a disappointment - if the homes and buildings were there, I never saw them. The traffic was horrible and I had all I could do navigating through it. I quickly gave up on looking for a book store and got back on the highway. Oh well, if anyone can recommend a book it would be greatly appreciated. Jim Dolan

Does anyone have, or have a link to a comprehensive listing of Scranton street name changes, from 1900 to present? I am particularly interested in a street (which appears to be "STONE" AVENUE on a rather illegible census page) From searching through the adjacent pages, it appears that this avenue was in the area bounded by FIG Street, PROSPECT Avenue, PALM Street, and IRVING Avenue. I know that all of the old alleys have now been renamed "Courts" which really complicates the situation. I would appreciate any help and advice. Frank

For each of the six people in your request, there could be considerable effort involved. While it is possible to find the likely year of death for Daniel by looking in the city directories, a search for an exact death date would take as much as 52 hours of newspaper research assuming that he died just before the city directory was canvased. The search for the last year he appeared in the directories is likely to take extra time because of the confusion of multiple surname spellings. The same is true for his widow, Amelia. That process could be simplified with information from the church they attended. A 1992 full year search would go much quicker, but still needs about 15 hours of time. With no information on the other three children, a starting point for a search is difficult to determine. Finding the 1992 obit is the key to isolate them, along with information from Amelia's obit - but that still leaves a 50 year gap. Perhaps a trail might be established via marriage licenses and city directories, but there is no guarantee.
