Perhaps you intended to mean Union Twp., Berks Co., but are you aware that there are 18 counties in Pennsylvania that have a "Union Township?" On your Flickinger quest, have you tried to contact: <shirleyshope@sprintmail.com(Juniata Genealogy)> Shirley is listed as the contact person for THE FLICKINGER FAMILY HISTORY on the Juniata Co. Does anyone know if there is a keeper of the records of this cemetery. I am looking for a John A. Leach buried there but without dates on his tombstone. Audrey Sizelove 1001-812@msn.com
Mary, My great-grandmother was Mary BENNER, born in Juniata County 22 December 1864. She was the daughter of Solomon BENNER, born 1842 in Pennsylvania and descends from Johannes BENNER, who was one of two BENNER brothers who immigrated to PA from Germany either in 1742 as believed by one published researcher, Hannah Benner Roach, or by 1734 if a tax record that shows a Johannes Benner is more correct. At this point, I don't have your John Benner in my files. However, I suspect because of the common Juniata County residence, that there may be a link. We just have to fill in the gaps to determine where that common link occurs. By the way, the Hannah Benner Roach series, "Detective Work Among the Benners," was published in the Bulletin of the Historical Society of Montgomery County between 1949 and 1953. Copies are still available from the society. I recently added to my "Juniata Jottings" WebPages with several more pages from the "History of that part of the Susquehanna and Juniata Valleys, embraced in the counties of Mifflin, Juniata, Perry, Union and Snyder, in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania" edited by F. Ellis and A. N. Hungerford. Published in 1886 by Everts, Peck and Richards, Philadelphia I now have all of the townships south and west of the Juniata River online. There may be a few bugs that need to be worked out and probably many typos, but hopefully they will be worked out in due time. Within a few weeks, the "spiders" will find these pages and index them so that this information can be found through searches using search engines. Please visit and peruse them as often as you like, and if you have a site which can be linked to from an appropriate subject within these pages, please let me know. I hope to do some "fine-tuning" in the weeks ahead, and perhaps add more at some future date. These pages can be linked to from the Juniata Co GenWeb page, thanks to Vi Limeric. Howard rjhoward@mainlink.net /////////////////////////////////// Hello Joanne, I have a family of CODERs in Juniata Co. probably descended from the same CODER line, but I cannot make a positive connection with your CODER family nor help you with any ancestry for the CODER you have posted. I do have the names of a couple of other CODER researchers which will follow what I have on my CODER family. I have: Thomas W. CODER b. Feb 1867 Patterson (now Mifflin), Juniata Co. m. 17 Jun 1886 Matilda "Tillie" Sulouff (b. Sep 1866 to John Suloff and wife Mary Noel who lived near Walnut, Juniata Co.) Thomas had to have his father's consent to marry at age 20. His father appeared before a Justice Of The Peace and signed his consent on the same day his son got married. Thomas was a farmer in Beale Twp., Juniata Co. I have a great deal of information on Tillie Sulouff, her family, and her ancestors' families. Matilda signed her marriage application as "Tillie Sulouff." The couple was married by Rev. E. E. Berry, pastor of Messiah Lutheran in Mifflintown. The children she bore were David S. CODER b. Oct 1886; Ruth G. CODER b. 16 Jun 1893; Lulu E. CODER b. Jun 1899; Daniel S. CODER b. 9 May 1903. All children were born while the family lived in Patterson Boro, which later became the town of Mifflin, across the Juniata River from Mifflintown. I have an E-mail message dated 1 March 1998 from Diana Hearl at <dhearl@compuserve.com> who advised that a book on CODERS entitled "SOME CODER FAMILIES IN JUNIATA COUNTY, PA 1751-1985" was written by a Mr. Richard Glenn Huffman. She indicated she had information on a brother of my Thomas CODER named James CODER. She also mailed me the table of contents for the book, which on page 8 lists for a "Jacob CODER b. 11/14/1781 of South Huntingdon Twp. Westmoreland Co. Pa" a biography, and among other children of Jacob a daughter "Susanna Coder b. 12/9/1811 and Joseph B. Hepler of South Hunt. Twp. Westmd. Co. Pa.," beginning on page 116 of the book. The table of contents also gives names and addresses for about 25 CODER descendants who were active in helping to compile the book produced by Mr. Huffman. I hope Diana's E-mail address is still good should you want to contact her. I would like to work with you on trying to close the gap between the family of your Susannah CODER and my Thomas CODER. I have postal addresses and telephone numbers for six current telephone subscribers in the area around Mifflintown, Juniata Co. and one in McVeytown, Mifflin Co. PA, but have not turned up E-mail for any of them. I have not yet tried to contact these people, because I would rather do it in person, but I am retired in AZ and they are in PA. I am hoping to manage a trip to PA this next Spring, and perhaps I can make some CODER contacts then in person. NOTE TO DIANA: Have you sorted out some good CODER family lines from your book on the CODERs by this time? Best regards to you both, Nelson R. Sulouff
Looking for parents of Susannah CODER, born ca. 1801-1805 in Pennsylvania, probably Juniata County. Susannah married John PRY ca 1820, probably Juniata County, Pennsylvania. Any information concerning the CODER family would be appreciated. Joanne P. Howard rjhoward@mainlink.net
Looking for the parents of Elizabeth RHODES who married David WALTERS. Elizabeth was born 8 Mar. 1816 in Lancaster, County, Pennsylvania and died in Juniata County, Pennsylvania 22 November 1895. This couple moved to Juniata County in the late 1840s. Probably married in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Any information appreciated. Willing to share research. Joanne P.
