    3. C. H. Knauss does any one have any information on this family? Possibly part of the Harrisburg Knouses? WILBERT C. (Joel; John George; Peter; J. G.), second son of Joel and Julia Ann (Gesseman) Overmyer, was born in Sandusky county, Ohio, March 9th, 1850; he married Mary A. Knauss, daughter of C. H. and Sarah A. (Kemerer) Knauss, born at Millersburg, Pa., March 6th, 1856. Ron Knouse

    3. Vi, It appears that there is plenty of room for others to post to the lists as well. Frankly, it is messages like yours which require a definitive response that take up the space on the lists unneccesarily..... I was unaware that I was "monopolizing" the list by forwarding useful URL's that many listees are unaware of and for which I have received many grateful responses. If you have received any complaints, I believe I have a right to know. I wish to offend no one and would apologize immediately. I have enjoyed being on these two lists, small though they may be, I have gleaned much information and made friends along the way while posting my queries along with everyone else. I belong to 11 lists, all of which are always anxious to receive any information which will assist them in their research. They, in turn, send me much useful information and websites through which I have progressed with my research. Yours is the only negative response I have had in the many months I have forwarded what I feel to be useful information. I have and will continue to be very selective in what I forward. You and I may be well aware of what is available but many listees are not. We are here to share any and all information pertinent to genealogical research, is that not so? I live on a tiny island in the Pacific Northwest with virtually no resources other than this computer. I know what it is to have to struggle to find information and through various kind people forwarding related websites to me, I am able to advance my research in many directions. I resent being threatened with "expulsion" from the lists for the purely innocent act of sharing information, therefore, to save you the trouble, I will unsubscribe. I am posting this response to the list in the event anyone WOULD like to continue receiving these helpful websites. They may contact me personally at any time. 1. Tuscarora Valley
    2. Nelson R. Sulouff
    3. Hello Jocelyn, Vi Limric posted your inquiry about the Tuscarora Valley on the Juniata Co. ListServ. The Tuscarora Valley is in south-central Pennsylvania and lies mainly in Juniata Co. It is defined by the Tuscarora Creek, which has its rise in Huntingdon Co. and runs to the northeast through much of Juniata Co. Shade Mountain lies to the northwest of the Valley and Tuscarora Mountain lies to the southeast. The northeast end of the Valley is where the Tuscarora Creek empties into the Juniata River at Port Royal, forty-some miles northwest of Harrisburg. If you wish to find it on a map and have access to the Internet, go to the following WebSite: http://mapping.usgs.gov/www/gnis/gnisform.html type in Tuscarora for "Feature name," choose "Pennsylvania" from the drop-down menu, choose "stream" from the "Feature type" drop-down menu, and then send query. When the information page comes up, to bring up the map click on the highlighted line "Show feature location." Give the program time to load the second map on this page and scroll down to it. It will show a line of red dots for the location of Tuscarora Valley. In 1801 most of the Valley's population was in the lower end, between Spruce Hill and Port Royal as shown on present-day road maps. Wishing you good luck, Nelson R. Sulouff

Williams" <104740.372@compuserve.com> To: PACUMBER-L <PACUMBER-L@rootsweb.com> To All Whom It May Concern: This message is to inform all genealogists, researchers, historians, teachers and students, about a very important web site that has a searchable database of over 1, 650 U.S. Regular Army soldiers who once served at the short-lived Buffalo Barracks between 1835 and 1846. Many of these soldiers were from Pennsylvannia, and went on to fight in the Mexican War and the Civil War. The 1840 Census of Buffalo, NY lists Colonel James M. Bankhead and a total 'quantity' of 671 individuals, ranging in age from 1 to 60, under his command and/or his responsibility. Unfortunately, the census does not list each of these barracks residents by name....only by quantity. HOWEVER, The Buffalo Barracks Historical Web Site has made available, free of charge, the names of all officers and soldiers (and some of their wifes and dependants...see Barracks Notes) who lived at this federal military post located on the Niagara Frontier. The URL for this outstanding web site is: [ www.buffalonet.org/army ] There, you will discover the "Descriptive & Historical Register Data for Enlisted Soldiers in the U.S. Army," as well as a wealth of information pertaining to the Buffalo Barracks and it's unique historic value. I encourage everyone to take the time to visit this site. Perhaps you have an ancestor who once served there? Enjoy your visit, Cliff Williams 104740.372@compuserve.com buffalobarracks@hotbot.com
