I'm looking for information on Kennedys who came to Juniata County possibly as early as the late 1700's (the county may have been formed out of another county +=after= that time). My great-grandfather was Dennis Kennedy, c. 1850-1925. He had a brother Joe who had a daughter, Annie, who married a Glock (we always pronounced "Gluck"); and she was a lifelong resident of Juniata County, possibly living into the 1970's. Both Dennis Kennedy's and Annie Kennedy Glock's graves are in a Presbyterian cemetery in rural Juniata County. My grandfather, John Moody Kennedy, "migrated" about 100 miles west to Cambria County c. 1880-85, and his children were born there, around Blandburg in the NE corner (my father, Harry, born in 1900). Another of Dennis' sons, Jim Kennedy, reportedly emigrated to Wyoming, to become a rancher. Any additional information, especially about Dennis's forebears, would be greatly appreciated. Also, any facts or theories on how these poor Irish (possibly Scottish?) immigrants could make it to Pennsylvania at that time? Thanks, Jon Kennedy Los Angeles

correction: The second wife of JAMES INNIS (son of FRANCIS and MARGERY) was ISABELLA OLIVER, not a MCWILLIAMS.
Hope the previous message arrived. My search is very specific in that I want to trace the ancestors of FRANCIS and MARGERY and get clarity on how the other persons, i.e. BRICE INNIS, and JAMES INNIS (not the James Innis who is the son of FRANCIS and MARGERY) can be distinguished with certainty. Ultimately I hope to trace both FRANCIS and MARGERY to Ireland, Donegal/Antrim?, and/or Scotland, Mayo or Elgin? I think the 1982 Innis geneaology may be helpful to many of you, as it goes into detail about many early setters of the period in the search area. Not sure whether it is still available. It was one of those very good/but amateur, self-published books. Cost me $75.00 back then. Knut W. Barde
Looking for ancestors of FRANCIS INNIS and MARGERY MILLIKEN, Scotch-Irish in Tuscarora Valley, CUMBERLAND--MIFFLIN--JUNIATA COUNTY. They settled there in the 1740's and 50's. They may have been related or connected to BRICE INNIS (B. 1713?) of Lancaster County--Hannover Twp, or JAMES INNIS (b. 1704 d. 1766) of the same location. Also may be related to JAMES INNIS who had property at MASKE Manor around 1740. Is MARGERY MILLIKEN connected to any MILLIKENS in that era and from that area? Both FRANCIS and MARGERY may have been immigrants. I have a whole INNIS genealogy fat book that traces an INNIS line through JAMES INNIS, one of 4 children of FRANCIS INNIS and MARGERY MILLIKEN.and his wifes ANN ARBUCKLE and MCWILLIAMS ( it is pretty clear that this JAMES INNIS is not the same as the JAMES INNIS person(s) referred to in the second and third paragraph above). I hope someone can help me! > > Louise Muniak ///////////////////////////////////////////////////// Hello Louise, You might want to check for early roots of your Greenwood family in the area which is today Greenwood Twp., Juniata Co. PA. This Greenwood Twp. was established in 1767 while the area was part of Cumberland Co. Records in the Cumberland County seat, Carlisle PA 17013, should be examined for mention of Joseph Greenwood. Before 1750 that same area would have been within Lancaster Co., so if Joseph obtained a warrant or patent deed for land two or more years before he was married, it might be found in the Lancaster County seat, Lancaster PA 17602. Within a generation some settlers of the lower Juniata Valley migrated westward through the restrictive "Narrows" and on up the Juniata River Valley. At the dates you mention in your query, Belleville, now in Union Twp., Mifflin Co., would also have been within Cumberland Co. Since Mifflin Co. was not established until 1789, it is probably futile trying to find records of your Greenwoods before that date in the Mifflin County seat at Lewistown PA 17044. On the other hand, descendants following the first two generations of Greenwoods might very well show up in Mifflin Co. records after 1789. The index to BIOGRAPHICAL ENCYCLOPEDIA OF JUNIATA VALLEY, Volume 1 (1897) lists mention of the following Greenwoods on page 326: Alfred W., Ralph, and William. I regret I have only the index, not the first volume of this set, so I can tell you no more about these men. ________________________________________________________ It is suggested you contact the Juniata Co. Historical Society to request a lookup for Joseph Greenwood, for which you should make a voluntary contribution to the Society. The Society is staffed entirely by volunteers and the library's hours are very limited. Please be patient if you contact them for help. Their E-mail address is: juncohistsoc@jc-net.com ___________________________________________________ Bibliography for Cumberland Co. listed in THE PENNSYLVANIA LINE, p. 15, which you might find helpful, includes the following: 21-132. 1848 HISTORY OF CUMBERLAND COUNTY, reprinted from Rupp's HISTORY OF DAUPHIN, CUMBERLAND, ... COUNTIES. 21-511. 1897 BIOGRAPHICAL AND PORTRAIT CYCLOPEDIA OF CUMBERLAND, YORK, AND ADAMS COUNTIES 21-107. LISTING OF INHABITANTS IN 1778 by Aimee Appleby, an alphabeltical listing of over 4600 early taxable inhabitants who were living in Cumberland County.... The township of residence is given for each individual, making this an excellent source for locating pre-census inhabitants. I ask that Listers not contact me for more information on the above bibliography. Please contact THE PENNSYLVANIA LINE published by Southwest Pennsylvania Genealogical Services, P.O. Box 253, Laughlintown PA. 15655. _______________________________________________________ Nelson R. Sulouff Tucson AZ
