Patricia, Do you know what regiment your g-g-grandfather served with? The muster roll for his regiment/company will indicate whether or not he was a substitute. NOrmally I would suggest you look at my PA in the Civil War site, but our new server isn't up and running yet. When it is running, it will take me some time to re-load some 3,300 files.
