I remember seeing some States but no in connection to Smouse. But if I ever find more on the Smouse line will post it. I know there is a book and I have heard that someone was updating it but so far nothing more on that. Lillian

Gayle Yeager, Thank you for the information reference, "Tombstone Hopper". I see your last name is Yeager. I'm researching Yeager's in Cambria and Jefferson County. By any chance would you be related to a Elizabeth Haas Yeager, who lived in Jefferson Co? She was married to a George Yeager who resided in Cambria Co and is buried in St. Boniface, PA. I'm sorry I should have clarified what I stated in a previous post. The 1852-54 birth, death, and marriage records that are on the 6 LDS films are held in Harrisburg. If there are a couple of counties missing, then all 3 records for those missing counties should be in the respective county courthouses.
Are Pat Steele's books available for sale somewhere? -----Original Message----- From: Sherry [mailto:genequeen@alltel.net] Sent: Tuesday, July 06, 2004 8:24 PM To: PAJEFFER-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: Birth, Marriage, Death 1852-1854 Jefferson Counties early marriage records can still be found in the courthouse-- I've seen them myself. Thanks Sherry. I haven't explored the Elk Co. GENWEB site yet but will tonight. I, along with others I'm sure, appreciate you taking the time to transcribe and post the death records. It is people like you that make our searches so much easier, allowing us to access that which we can't possibly go to search for ourselves. -----Original Message----- From: Sherry [mailto:genequeen@alltel.net] Sent: Tuesday, July 06, 2004 8:30 PM To: PAJEFFER-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: Birth, Marriage, Death 1852-1854 Elk County has their early birth and death records from the 1852-1854 time period in the courthouse in Ridgway as well. In fact, I copied and transcribed the death records, and they are up on the Elk County GENWEB page. I always meant to go back for the 1852-1854 birth records, but at $.50 a copy and over 30 records-- well you get the picture. :-) I have not seen marriage records at the Elk County courthouse from that time period though. Jefferson Counties early marriage records can still be found in the courthouse-- I've seen them myself. Pat Steele transcribed them years ago and included them in her Jefferson County book on marriage licenses. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Pat Collins" <sweeze@zoominternet.net> To: <PAJEFFER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, July 06, 2004 6:32 PM Subject: Birth, Marriage, Death 1852-1854 > > The microfilm is available through the Latter Day Saints Family History > Library. The microfilm is available through the Latter Day Saints Family History Library. There are a total of 6 films in this series, numbered 1016403-1016408. Butler County is on Film 1016404. They are on the films alphabetically. I know that Lawrence County was on film 1016406 and I think that Mercer County may have been on that same film. If I remember that correctly, Lehigh would be on the film with Lawrence and Mercer. These records are NOT in the county courthouses. When you look at the LDS films, it clearly states they filmed them in Harrisburg.
Hello , I would like to know more on this 1852 - 1854 record. First I have heard of it. I am looking for July 1852 -July 1853 record for Lycoming county. Brookville Courthouse people are as nice as you can expect. They may not know what they are sitting on. Marriage records are about 1885 on. They have detailed tax records from teen years in 1800's to present date. The historical society used to be back behind the courthouse. Their link did not work tonight. But the people that work there are very good. They have good records for newspapers 1870 onward Hope this helps
I have an Emanuel States, born 1823 in Bedford Co., Pennsylvania who was the son of Abraham States and Rebecca Smouse. I have no dates on them. Jerilyn
