John- If you are going to forward this list to interested researchers please include me. Thanks in advance for sharing. Bev Hotton
Patricia, Do you know what regiment your g-g-grandfather served with? The muster roll for his regiment/company will indicate whether or not he was a substitute. NOrmally I would suggest you look at my PA in the Civil War site, but our new server isn't up and running yet. When it is running, it will take me some time to re-load some 3,300 files. If you send me his name, I will try to track him down for you. Alice Gayley PS John, I'd like to be added to your list to receive a copy of the Jeff County draft information. If it will help I can scan the material for you and let you disseminate the copies as electronic files. Do you know if the list includes substitutes (i.e., people who were drafted but paid someone else to go for them)? My great-great grandfather is supposed to have gone as a substitute for someone else, and would like to find some way to confirm (or disprove) that. To John Casey, Thank you so much for the Jefferson Co. Civil War Draft pages. Darla Kelly
Hi John, I am certainly interested as are the MANY others who have responded. Is this something that you can put on the web or do you need the names that we are interested in? You could spend weeks just answering the email responses that you have already had. Can I assist you? FYI I have seen SHINGLEDECKER and SHINDLEDECKER in the Mahoning Twp., Lawrence Co., PA area. Edinburg/Edenburg (also spelled both ways) and Hillsville, Mahoning Twp., Lawrence Co., PA are two towns. You may also want to try Poland, Lowellville and Youngstown, Mahoning Co., PA as they are right across the PA line. I also know that a lot of Shingledecker/Shindledecker were buried at the Hillsville Cemetery. When the cemetery went downhill family moved the bodies to Lake Park Cemetery on Midlothian Blvd. in Youngstown, OH. I also THINK that some of the family from Hillsville, PA MAY HAVE moved to IL and IA. I have the obit of a Lois A. Ripple McCreary that had a sister married to a Shingledecker. I am not a Shingledecker/Shindledecker researcher, just came across a lot of info on them while researching my McCreary Family of the Hillsville, PA area. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dawnene" <dby1107@comcast.net> To: <PAJEFFER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, September 28, 2004 10:23 PM Subject: RE: Draft In The Civil War > Sorry - Jefferson county names are Smith, Whiteman, Byerly, > Shingledecker/Shindledecker > > -----Original Message----- > From: Dawnene [mailto:dby1107@comcast.net] > Sent: Tuesday, September 28, 2004 7:34 PM > To: PAJEFFER-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: RE: Draft In The Civil War > > Please add me to the list, too!
