I have "Hess" in my line who come through marriage into my husband's "Best" line. I'd have to check further to see if they are among the ones you're looking for. I'm originally from Jefferson County (now living in Mifflin Co.) but I know the area very well "up there." If I can help, I will, since so many people on other boards have been so helpful to me. I guess that's how it goes...pass it on. --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail - Find what you need with new enhanced search. Learn more.
If your local paper is on line you should be able to get this from their obit column. You don't say where this person died or the name of the town where she died. Just some hints or clues. I just wanted to say "Happy Holidays" to everyone on this board and "Thank You" to everyone and anyone who helped me this year in my research. You may not know what you've done but I do. I may have gotten a website from you that you sent to someone else; I may have asked a "stupid" question and you were patient enough to answer; I may have asked for an obit or some other tidbit and you sent a jpeg copy or even more than I asked for. Whatever it was, again, THANK YOU. Happy Hunting and I hope we all find more than we're looking for next year. --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Take Yahoo! Mail with you! Washington, DC October 3, 1863 The year that is drawing towards its close, has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies. To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come, others have been added, which are of so extraordinary a nature, that they cannot fail to penetrate and soften even the heart which is habitually insensible to the ever watchful providence of Almighty God. In the midst of a civil war of unequalled magnitude and severity, which has sometimes seemed to foreign States to invite and to provoke their aggression, peace has been preserved with all nations, order has been maintained, the laws have been respected and obeyed, and harmony has prevailed everywhere except in the theater of military conflict; while that theatre has been greatly contracted by the advancing armies and navies of the Union. Needful diversions of wealth and of strength from the fields of peaceful industry to the national defence, have not arrested the plough, the shuttle, or the ship; the axe had enlarged the borders of our settlements, and the mines, as well of iron and coal as of the precious metals, have yielded even more abundantly than heretofore. Population has steadily increased, notwithstanding the waste that has been made in the camp, the siege and the battle-field; and the country, rejoicing in the consciousness of augmented strength and vigor, is permitted to expect continuance of years, with large increase of freedom. No human counsel hath devised nor hath any mortal hand worked out these great things. They are the gracious gifts of the Most High God, who, while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy. It has seemed to me fit and proper that they should be solemnly, reverently and gratefully acknowledged as with one heart and voice by the whole American people. I do therefore invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next, as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens. And I recommend to them that while offering up the ascriptions justly due to Him for such singular deliverances and blessings, they do also, with humble penitence for our national perverseness and disobedience, commend to his tender care all those who have become widows, orphans, mourners or sufferers in the lamentable civil strife in which we are unavoidably engaged, and fervently implore the interposition of the Almighty Hand to heal the wounds of the nation and to restore it as soon as may be consistent with the Divine purposes to the full enjoyment of peace, harmony, tranquillity and Union. In testimony whereof, I have here unto set my hand, and caused the seal of the United States to be affixed. Done at the city of Washington, this third day of October, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three, and of the independence of the United States the eighty-eighth. A. Follow-up to my message below: I thought the obits I submitted to the Jefferson County Genealogy Project Board last month were lost. Not so.... It's the index part that's not working right. When I typed a name nothing came up. I had to go through each page to find them. Bev ----- Original Message ----- From: Bev Morris To: PAJEFFER-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Monday, November 22, 2004 3:40 PM Subject: HIMES/KERNER/WACHOB obits Hello, I posted some obits for HIMES, KERNER, and WACHOB surnames on the Jefferson County Genealogy Project Board. It appears that others I submitted last month such as GEIST were lost. I'll do my best to re-submit, but it will take awhile. Others that have submitted obits, please check to see if they're still there. Also, please add any that you have. Happy Thanksgiving, Bev in Calif.

Bev Nate has had his share of problems with the pa-roots sites in the last month first with a hacker, then he changed servers, so he has had his hands full getting all the web pages back up and running correctly. Hopefully everything will be back to normal with the sites and there will be no more "errors". Nate and his family are moving over the next 2 weeks. He is a pastor and will be settling in at his new church in the weeks ahead. So he will be quite busy packing, and moving. Just wanted to let you know if the site is not fixed right away, that is the reason why. Hi Lillian- Yes this is Emma sister of James. Thought I'd try her but don't know which one either. Someone sent me the info the other day and I think it is the one listed as living with John and Beatrice Pugh. It states she is the sister in law so I am assuming Beatrice is another sister but can't confirm it. In my grandmother's bible she had a Mrs. John Pugh listed with nothing else , so maybe? I will just have to keep trudging through it all till it comes together. You have a good day and nice hearing from you. Irene
Yes. I have that information already. Trying to find his parents for years now. They are listed as Robert and louisa Yohe on his marriage application. Can't find any other connection though. That's why I thought I might have more luck with his sister Emma. Thanks anyway though. Irene
