Walston, Reynoldsville, & Punxsy are all in Jefferson County so the Jefferson County Courthouse at Brookville, PA will have the Naturalization papers. My grandfather came to Walston in 1881 and his papers were there. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bob Coles" <anubis70@frontiernet.net> To: <PAJEFFER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, February 26, 2005 7:59 PM Subject: [PAJEFFER-L] NATURALIZATION RECORDS HELP > Can anyone tell me how i can obtain a Naturalization Record for: > Giuseppe (Joseph) Lorenzo,b. 1880 Roscigno,Italy > Came to Walston in 1897 also lived in Reynoldsville and Punxatwney until about 1910. > > Date of Naturalization was 1904 according to Census. > > any help will be greatly appreciated! > thanks,Bob > > >

Hello John: Many thanks for your trouble. I hadn't checked 1900 as I didn't think anyone came over that early. Will give that a try to see if anything looks like a connection. I keep hoping to find someone else on a list who is into genealogy and might be connected to this group. We now have Ancestry at our local FHL -- will get in line to use their computer. Thank you once again for your response. Hello Listers: I have been researching SMOLINSKI for some time without any luck in the U.S. According to Ellis Island records there were several people with this surname, all from the village of Nizankowice, now in Ukraine, formerly Austria, Galicia, Poland who may have emigrated to PA. It appears as though they had traveled back and forth from Europe to the U.S. and back again to the PA area. The information I have from Ellis Island manifests is as follows: Their destination was the Pittsburgh area and one Ellis Island record has a Stanislaw SMOLINSKI born in what appears to be Clinton PA. SMOLINSKI [Smolinska] Anna, Stanislaw, Leona arrived Ellis Island Nov. 1913 destination states Clairton PA, husband Bazyli [Stanislaw noted as U.S.born circa 1900 but place of birth looks like Clinton] SMOLINSKI Bazyli arrived Ellis Island July 1907 destination Pittsburgh blacksmith, Ruthenian, Galicia, Nizankowice SMOLINSKI Jan arrived Ellis Island July 1905 farmer, Ruthenian, Galicia, destination 2430 Forbes St. Pittsburgh PA SMOLINSKY Tomas arrived 1913, lived in Lyndora PA until 1927 when he returned to Ukraine. Are there any SMOLINSKI connections out there to this family? Kind regards, Helen Ginn Ontario - Canada

Yep, that's what I wanted!!! Thank you for helping me solve a mystery. Someone assumed this was Godfrey Franklin REITZ, son of my 3rd great grandparents, Godfrey and Catharine (THOMAS) REITZ. But, I just found evidence that the son, lived and went to Armstrong Co., PA, from his sister's obit. Hello, Will someone please do a look-up for me in one of Patricia Steele's books? Supposedly in one of the books regarding death notices (Vol. II, page 86) there is something about Godfrey Franklin REITZ death on 21 Apr 1886. The article is supposed to be in the Jeffersonian Democrat. I would like to know exactly what it says, the title of the book, and page no. Thank you very much. Bev in Calif.

Searching for ancestors of Isaac SCHWARTZ/SWARTZ (b. Abt 1780 or 1790 - d. 1865). Isaac is my great, great, great grandfather. He was married to Elizabeth (maiden name unknown). They apparently started their family in Dauphin Co. (see child 8 & 9) but lived most of their lives in Redbank Township, Armstrong/Clarion County, Pennsylvania. Some of his descendants also lived in Jefferson Co. Looking for information on his parents, any siblings, where he was born. From his will on file in the Clarion County Courthouse in Clarion, Pennsylvania I know that he had the following nine children. Much of this is also confirmed by information in the "History of the Evangelical and Lutheran Church" in Shannondale, Redbank Township, Clarion County, Pennsylvania. Children of Isaac SCHWARTZ/SWARTZ and Elizabeth: 1. John* (1808-1881) married to Barbara COLEMAN* (1813-1881) My great, great grandparents. 2. Adam No information is available. 3. Nancy married to John YEANY. 4. Catherine married to Benjamin SHAFFER. 5. Elizabeth* (1816-1874) married to John YEANY* (1809-1900) 6. Christenia* (1819-1877) married to Christian YEANY* (1811-1896) 7. Lydia married to Daniel REITZ. 8. Elizabeth "Polly" b. 1821 in Harrisburg, Dauphin Co. d. 1850 married to Dieter WOLFGANG*. (1820-1888) 9. Sarah Jane b. 1829 in Harrisburg, Dauphin Co. d. 1915 married to Jacob WOLFGANG. *All buried in the Shannondale Zion Cemetery, Shannondale, Redbank Township, Clarion County, Pennsylvania. Hi! I just posted 4 obits on the 'Jefferson County Obituary Board' for people with the surname MANNERS. Hope they help someone. Bev in Calif.
Hello ED, From some info I have recieved so far from some other members of the PAJEFFER-list it looks like your correct. Jacob & Barbara Smith had a daughter Margaretha Maria SMITH, born on 7 Dec 1808, & who had married a John D. PHILLIPI. Also on that same page (p426) of the 1860 census for Winslow Twp. Sarah Hess, age 49 is residing with her daughter Barbara A (Anne Hess) age 28 the wife of Joseph Rutter. Appreciate any other info you might have. I am still in search of what became of John Hess. Hello Frank, Just wanted to offer this . I hold that Jacob Smith age 81 in 1860 Winslow page 426 may be the father of Margaret Philippi. His neighbor married to John Drumbaugh Philippi. In 1850 he and she may be listed as Phillips. But still next door. Jacob being 71 living with Barbara 69. I would never of guessed at record that the surname for Sarah was Hess. Thanks ! Our surnames touch upon all three Jacob Smiths in area. I will look at your surname Hess and 1820 entry into Jefferson county and let you know if I find anything. Thanks Again ED Strawley

Hello, I new to the list. I am looking for information on a John Hess who came to Jefferson County, PA sometime around 1820. He married a Sarah Smith the daughter of a Jacob & Barbara Ludwig Smith. John & Sarah were to have had 4 children; Jacob, Sarah E., Barbara Ann, and Mary. From the census records it looks like John might have died before 1840 because there was a Sarah Hess noted as the head of the household in 1840 and then in 1850 she was living with her parents. In 1860 she was listed as a widow. The family shows in the census for Young Twp. in 1840, Gaskill Twp. in 1850, and Winslow Twp in 1860. John was the son of John and Mary Brua Hess of Lancaster County of which I know a lot about with the exception of their son John. Does any one know where they might be buried? Dates of death for John, Sarah and what happened to their four children? Appreciate any help you can be. Thank you. Frank W.Hess Enola, PA
