Looking for info on Evans Rice Brady who was with a newspaper in Brookville until Civil War, he was killed in 1864. His wife, Frances McGee, is a cousin to Edward Scofield, my great uncle, who was from Clearfield County. I have info that my great uncle lived with the Brady`s before the war and enlisted with Mr. Brady in the 11th Pa Volunteers. Thanks. Neal Tucson, Az.

Again, without details, no way to say for sure that tehre's a connection, but I would suggest that, for anyone who has hit a road block, especially with Pa. German names, don't neglect Northumberland and Schuylkill counties as possible counties of origin.

I'm so glad I asked Deb for her family names but it would be easier for us all if everyone listed surnames in the subject line, unless of course there are too many. That way we don't have to read those that don't apply to us. It'a a great idea to keep a list of all names!

Dunkle Michael Dunkle, Nancy J. Rhea Dunkle & their children came to Barnett Twp., Jefferson Co. from Clarion Co. PA between 1860 and 1870. Ishman/Ishtman/Eastman Joseph Ishtman, Margaret alias Rebecca Hess Ishtman and children came to Pine Creek Township, Jefferson Co. from Marion Twp., Centre County between 1850 and 1860. Both Joseph (b. 1807) and Margaret/Rebecca (b. 1820) were supposedly born in Upper Mahantango Twp., Schuyllkill Co., but there is evidence that at least Margaret/Rebecca came from Upper Mahanoy Twp., Northumberland Co., which is across the river from Upper Mahantango. David Ishtman, who arrived in Pine Creek Twp. by the 1840 census, is said to have been Joseph's brother. Keth Rachel Ann Keth married my ancestor William Ishman in Pekin, Jefferson Co. in 1870. They and their offspring seemed to go back and forth between the Jefferson and Forest Co. parts of Barnett Twp. Rachel was born in Clarion County to George W. Keth (alias Washington Ditty) (d. 1862) and his wife Eliza Smathers Keth (d. 1858), but was "bound out" as a child, apparently before 1860. Reardon Andrew Reardon and wife Priscilla Dunkle were born in Clarion county, coming to Barnett Twp., Jefferson County by the 1870 census. Andrew and his second wife, Susannah Grosce, were enumerated in Barnett Twp., Jefferson Co. in 1880 and 1900. In pension records up to 1920, their post office is given as Clarington, which doesn't tell us whether they were actually living there or still in Jefferson Co. Pension records for Andrew mention time in Forest and Elk counties. Kathy [email protected]
VITE, BOWSER, FIREMAN, RUPERT - all of Jefferson County, PA - Thanks! [Rick Auden, Laporte, PA (Sullivan County!)]
Some of the names I have a realtionship in my ancestory in Jefferson County are: Best, Cornmesser, Syphrit, Deemer, Beam, Smith, Shaffer, Culp, Yohe, Sykes, Mays or Maize, Dickey, Moore, Straightwell,Rhoades or Rhodes or Rhoad (this name is spelled differently by many family members, Howlett and many more through marriage.I am trying to post some of the documents on the site but it is taking me a while. I have some marriages started and much more to go. Counties I find these families from include Westmoreland, Clearfield, Centre, Northampton, Bucks, Armstrong. I have found them moving to such places as Illinois, California, Kansas, Oregon and many others. Most came from the Eastern part of Pa to Westmoreland which was considered the west at that time. Documentation shows many on the same ships, churches, cemeteries and other early documents. Thank You Karen Western Pa
