    3. Rick and any others of the same mind set: Use your delete key! In my opinion it is the "roll calls" that generate the most useless messages. A surname without any other corresponding information is just clutter as many surnames are very, very common, however, I use my delete key and generally don't read any of them. Now, other information about surnames and families and exchanges are very necessary to the success of this and any other list. Much of the time there is more than just one person who is interested in the information. It all depends on what you are labelling "personal"queries and "personal" replies. The name of the game is "sharing" information. A suggestion to help to simplify the message reading process is to put the name and a very short description in the Subject header. Headers such as PAJEFFER-D Digest; looking for family; researching; new to list, etc. are non-productive. Please type surnames only in all caps. This makes them stand out to those who scan (not with a scanner) the messages, rather than reading each message in its entirety. Placing a surname such as Smith in the body of the message blends with all the other text. If I place the surname SMITH in all caps it stands out from the other text and the reader's eye is caught by the difference. And last, but not least, I don't understand why people sign up for a mail-list and then complain about the volume of mail in their mailbox. Genealogy is a reseach based hobby. Research is a time consuming task. One must sort through tons and tons of information to find scaps and tidbits. I've been doing genealogy for about 30 years and that's the way it is and that's the way it always has been. If you don't have the time, find a different hobby. 1. Please
    2. Members, Please refrain from sending replies to personal queries out to the entire group. My mail box is being flooded, to say the least. I like the "roll-call" idea for generating interest in the group, but personal replies to posts should be directed to the individual's personal email and not to the entire group. Thank you. Keep the "roll-call" going - it is very interesting. Regards, Rick Auden Laporte, PA Sullivan Co.

    2. Hi, Barbara, Johnson is such a difficult name to search. I have a Charles A. Johnson, Jefferson County. b. 30 August 1868, married Martha J. Hallowell(Hollowell) 4 Oct 1898 at Big Run. There are sooooo many Charles A. Johnsons. They came to Washington State where their daughter Edna was born 8 April 1899. If any of this rings a bell please contact me. Lillian [email protected]

    3. Usually, the "reply to" address for list messages defaults to the list address, not the sender's address. It's easily overlooked and you think you are replying directly to the originator but it goes to the list instead. You have to pay attention and edit out the list address and copy/paste the sender's address in. Replying to individuals via the list is not always a bad thing either. More info is communicated which may help others make connections. I'm on several lists and my mailbox is constantly overflowing. I just delete the ones I don't need. 3. Hi Carol, I can't remember if there was a Henry Beam mentioned in the book. It is at the Indiana Pa. Historical Society and is a looseleaf notebook that contains a lot of information and photos. I found their Historical Society very easy to do research and the woman working there was very helpful. I hope this helps and I hope you get a chance to see the book. 2. Hi Karen, I'd be interested in what you may have on the Best family. I have bits and pieces of Floe Best Straitwell's Wilhelm Best family history, unfinished, and copies of her notes and correspondence that sometimes confuses me. Did she ever finish her work? Regards.. I have some marriages started and much more to go. Counties I find these families from include Westmoreland, Clearfield, Centre, Northampton, Bucks, Armstrong. I have found them moving to such places as Illinois, California, Kansas, Oregon and many others. Most came from the Eastern part of Pa to Westmoreland which was considered the west at that time. Documentation shows many on the same ships, churches, cemeteries and other early documents. Thank You Karen Western Pa >>

    1. Jeff. Co Surnames - REITZ and all intermarried families
    2. Hi, all. Glad to see so many new names also looking for REITZ. That's my interest, and all descendants regardless of surname. That's a few too many to list. Suffice to say if there's a REITZ in your family, I'd like to hear from you. My "project" is to gather all descendants of Johan George Reitz, pioneer immigrant (1751) to Northumberland County, PA, from whom (so far) all Jefferson County Reitzes are descended. Hope to hear from you! -Paul ====================================== Paul R. Reitz 68 Hastings Drive Whitinsville, MA 01588 ======================================
