Hi folks, I need some help from those of you researching the John and Margaret McNAUGHTON AGNEW line. My lines kept marrying into this family - and am I confused, or what?! My gg aunt, Minnie DOBSON married Burnell L. AGNEW My gg uncle, William H. Absolem MATHERS married Barbara Ida AGNEW. My g aunt, Maud BEASOM married Wade L. AGNEW or John W. AGNEW? In the 1900 US Census, WV, Marion county, Fairmont District, p. 60, l. 80. the following was found: AGNEW, John W. head etc. Maude wife etc. (age is correct) Ray N. son etc. Lula dau etc. Wayne son etc. Now, we've had Maud(e) BEASOM listed, for quite awhile, married to Wade L. AGNEW who we believe is not a child of John and Margaret. So, Who are Wade L. AGNEW's parents? Was Wade L. or John W. AGNEW married to Maud BEASOM? Any help you can give is greatly appreciated. Thanks. Happy holidays everyone - Linda K. Jones

Dear People, I recently received the Civil War Pension papers for John C. Clover's Invalid Pension and his wife's,Lydia's, subsequent widow's pension. A number of people filed affadavits on behalf of borh of these folks, and since the affadavits gave ages and places of residence, I thought that some of this information might be useful to other poeple on the list. John C. Clover served in Co K, 148th Penn Volunteers. We was crushed while repairing an ambulance and suffered disabilties thereafter. John died 14 July, 1897 in the Erie Soldiers and Sailors Home. Lydia seems to have died sometime in 1913 in Elk Co, PA. Her maiden name was Lydia SMITH. I think that her parents were John and Margaret SMITH. I am therefore curious about the relationship of AJ and Perry SMITH, who were witnesses to several papers and also who signed affadavits on the Clovers' behalf. Hope this helps someone! For any Gourley descendants on the list, A current eBay auction has a 1946 calendar available from the Austen Explosives co. in Clevelend with naval war pictures on it. The bottom of the calendar clearly satates: " D. C. Gourley, Sales Representative, Brookville, PA". Hi, Can anyone tell me all of the enumeration districts contained within Jefferson County in 1880? I know that 186-203 existed, but were there any more? The reason I ask is that some townships appear to be missing at Ancestry.com. I'm specifically interested in the district number for Rose Twp. The Brookville Borough (ED 186) is listed, but no Rose Twp. Thanks, Mark Holt.

"A Thomas Nast cartoon, published in the November 20, 1869 issue of Harper's Weekly, celebrates the ethnic diversity and envisions the political equality of citizens of the American republic. Joining the Thanksgiving Day feast of hosts Uncle Sam (carving the turkey on the far-right) and Columbia (seated on the far-left) are Americans from all over the world: German, Native American, French, Arab, British, African, Chinese, Italian, Spanish, and Irish. Behind Uncle Sam is a large picture of Castle Garden, the main immigrant depot in the United States, with the inviting label reading Welcome. (Located at the foot of Battery Park in southernmost Manhattan, Castle Garden was the primary station for processing immigrants until replaced by Ellis Island in 1890.) The cartoon also has the specific aim of endorsing ratification of the Fifteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which was intended to guarantee that federal voting rights could not be denied on the basis of race." Hello , Early 1900 obits are located at Jefferson county historical society . The society has a good index for early 1900's as well as newspapers. ED
Is there a kind soul on the list living in Jefferson County who could do an obit lookup for me from the Reynoldsville Star for a Frank R. Snyder, d. 3 Jun 1920, in Winslo Twp near Deemer's Crossroads? Would also be interested in any obit for a Liddie or Lydia Snyder d. 1910 (after April of that year, same location). I have access to just about all census records and many county histories to offer a return lookup. Thanks! Chris Staats
Hi List, Can anybody tell me where I can look up obituaries for Brookville in the early 1900s? Thanks, Charlie

Does anyone know what happened to the Jefferson Lines Website? I haven't been able to access it. Is there a new web address?
Connie Mateer says" "I have a Rachel PAXTON (b. 1787 in MD.) who married David Barr. They lived in Jefferson Co. Does anyone know of any other Paxton's in the county. Most are in Bedford, Washington, and Adams." Connie, There are a large number of Paxtons in Frederick Co., MD, along with the Reitz and Thomas families, all of German extraction. As you probably know, all three lines migrated into Jefferson and Adams Co., my direct line coming from Adams Co., and moving to Clay Co., WV, just outside of the Charleston, WV area. I seem to recall the Barr name in MD as well. Have to check my files. Still looking for that elusive Thomas/Six connection before Peter Thomas and Anna Maria Six in Berks Co., PA.
