The lads were curious to know what slaking lime would do if it were corked tightly in a bottle. Securing a large container they put a quantity of lime into it; poured in some water; pounded a cork into the neck of the recepticle and sat down to watch it "work.' The watching did not last but a few minutes, when the bottle burst with a resounding noise, throwing a portion of the contents into the eyes of the boys. Physicians were hurriedly summoned and it is just possible that their eyesight may be destroyed. Quick action taken by the physicians, however, may be the means of averting a tragic conclusion to the experiment. Harold WILT (1901-1985) s/o Howard Wilt & Stella McCoy of Cookport.
