Hi Listers, Here is a very interesting situation; hope someone can tell me which Charles D. Rager they are referring to: A Matrimonial Meddle Margaret Rager, wife of Charles D. Rager was Thursday committed to the jail of Cambria county on a preliminary hearing before "Squire Fisher, in which the charge was docketed adultery. The information was made by Mr. John Rager, brother of Charles and from the evidence adduced it seems that Margaret left her home in Cambria borough about the 3rd of March last in company with a somewhat notorious individual of Prospect named Patrick Scott. The Johnstown Tribune gives the following particulars: They commenced housekeeping at Cokerton, a village nearly a mile distant from Blairsville, and seemed to be enjoying the situation up until yesterday when Constable Harris arrested the woman upon a warrant to give bail for her appearance, in the sum of $200, so 'Squire Fisher committed her, and she was taken to the county prison last evening by Deputy Sheriff Kinkead, to await a trial by jury. Patrick Scott is a very bad man, and it is a great pity that he cannot be properly punished for his misdoings. About six years ago he was married to a female who went by the name of "Moll Scott," but who had a husband living in Blairsville. The ceremony of uniting them in wedlock was illegal, as a matter of course, but the young man to whom she was legally married took advantage of her bigamous transaction, and procured a divorce. (Indiana Weekly Messenger 1881 May 4.) I love the way everything was blamed on Margaret, like Patrick was innocent.
