Here is my problem. One of my paternal 3rd great grandmother's maiden name was Carney. She was Elizabeth born March 10, 1810 Pa.(I think in Armstrong Co.) She died Aug. 19, 1898 and is buried in the Homestead Cemetery, Allegheny Co., Pa. She married Reynolds Laughlin Jan. 8, 1829 Armstrong Co., Pa. A cousin thinks Elizabeth's first name may have started with an M. My paternal great grandfather, one of Elizabeth's grandsons, had very high cheek bones and his aunts would say those came from the Indian grandmother. The Carney line I've researched, I believe yours, has native American ancestry and lived in Armstrong and Indiana Co. Pa. same as some of mine. Joseph Carney b. 1818 and son of John Carney and Mary Vensel was married to Amanda or Nancy Snow an Indian woman, according to some members of that family. Joseph also had brother's Philip and Johnston. Since Elizabeth fits into the ages of these men, she could be thei! r sister but I haven't been able to prove it. Of course, if the Native American ancestry is true then it would need to be John Carney, father to Joseph,Philip and Johnston, who married an Indian. I have John Carney's wife as Mary Vensel (source- Memoirs of Allegheny County Page 337). From Rev. War applications for a pension I have Patrick married to Mary Russell as John's parents.
