brief recap: Charles Gibson was born abt 1755 in Eastern PA, and moved to Westmoreland Co., PA. He may be a son of a William Gibson, who died in Cumberland Co. in 1771. He is listed in the D. A. R. as serving in the Revolutionary War. He married Esther Graham and they had 9 children. Charles Gibson died about 1803.(even though he lived in Westmoreland Co., there has been an interest in some people in Indiana Co.) Only three of Charles Gibson's nine children have been named: Charles Jr., Rebecca, and Ann. Recently, I had been corresponding with a guy named Artemis. He had some questions about a Charles Gibson, who lived in Mercer Co., PA, and died there in 1828. He really doesn't have much information on the Mercer Co. Charles Gibson, but he did send me a very interestioning snippet from a church record in Nashannock Twp., Mercer Co., PA. It says: Abner Gibson "came to Neshannock (Mercer Co., PA) from Westmoreland Co., PA in 1811. His brothers, William, Isaac, and Francis preceded him by at least eight years. He was married to Mrs. Martha Dickey." >From Artemis, the church record also states that Abner was a son of Charles Gibson. It had been believed that this was the Charles Gibson who was living in Mercer Co., PA, until now. There is no paper work that proves or shows the children of the Mercer Co. Charles Gibson, so in a way these sons "are up for grabs". That's not the way to do genealogy, but it helps us to find new paths or eliminate others. The clincher is that these sons were from Westmoreland Co.! The census records place some of the sons in Westmoreland Co., while the Mercer Co., Charles Gibson is in . . . Mercer Co. (at the same time, in Westmoreland Co., there is Charles Gibson Sr. and Charles Gibson Jr. I could go on and say more, but this is enough for now. So, this is not actually proven, but it sure leaves the door open for more investigation. Four more children of Charles Gibson and Esther Graham may have been found. adios for now, Gary T. Gibson
