Hello Listers -- I am new to this List but have belonged to the PAALLEGH for several years -- I'm assuming the rules are the same? I am researching my BECK ancestors: gr-grandfather, Gottfried (Godfrey) gr-grandmother, Christiane (Christina) Elizabeth [nee Stoug] their children: my grandfather, Johann Heinrich Friedrich (later in life was known as Henry F. Beck); Anna Dorothea (Dora) Wilhelm Carl (Charles) Johann Robert Elizabeth Clara The family emigrated from German (Bremen port) in 1856. I have them living in the 'borough of Indiana, Indiana County' per the 1870 census; not sure where in Indiana County they are located in 1880, but the parents & some of the children were still at home there in Indiana County per that census data. Gottfried/Godfrey BECK was a carpenter. My gr-grandfather, Henry F. (formerly Johann Heinrich Friedrich) served a few months in the 57th PA Militia during the Civil War, & from the wording in his obituary (1929), it sounds like he left Indiana County at that time & possibly never returned to live there. He met/married one Anna Mary LOGAN of Pittsburgh & they raised their family & lived in Pittsburgh all of their married life. Per obits of others of Henry's siblings, Robert remained in Delmont, & sister, Dora, died in Pgh., but was returned to Saltsburg for burial (it doesn't state the cemetery). Other older family members remember traveling from Pgh. to visit 'a cemetery in Blairsville' as children. So we are fairly certain that Godfrey/Christina BECK are buried in Indiana County, as well as some of their children. Thank you in advance for any info, data, leads, advice. \MaryLee Smith [living in Phx. AZ since 1964, but my heart still lies in Western PA]
