Hello to all on paindiana list. It has been a very long time since I have posted on here. But we (my family and I) are trying to ascertain some information concerning my Gr/Gr/Grandfather HESS' miliary service during the Civil War. His name is: Albert Henry HESS He served in these regiments: 135th PA Regt. Co. D: (Came in as a musician) upped in: August 1, 1862; Discharged: May 25, 1863; 53rd PA Regt. Co. E: (came in as private/out as 1st Lieutenant) upped in: March 17, 1864; Discharged: June 30, 1865; I have copies of his military papers so these dates are firm. The quandary is this: Grandfather claimed that he was indeed at the Battle of Gettysburg. But yet his dates in and out do not support that claim. The 53rd WAS at Gettysburg and they did have a musician with them at one time by the name of Albert Henry. So am wondering if this could have been him before he become a full enlistee. Albert Henry Hess was born, raised, and lived his full lifetime in Indiana County. His parents were Simon J. HESS and Louisa REED. His wife was Margerie Ellen LYDICK. If anyone out there has any info to help us in settling this family mystery it would be so appreciated. God bless, Melissa H. B.
