    2. MICHAEL B HENDERSON
    3. Jan--I have family members who lived in Derry, Westmoreland, PA between 1790-1860, therefore I am curious if any of them may have been on your quilt. Elizabeth Henderson was the wife of Joseph Henderson. I am trying to identify his ancestors so any or every Henderson name would be of interest to me. I know that other names were Rankin, Laughlin, Long, Holstein, Jayner. I would greatly appreciate knowing more about your quilt names. I have seen two references to that name. One is in a genealogy that lists it as a place where couples went to be wed and included members of the family with their marriage location as Pleasant Retreat, Chester Co., PA. The other notation is Pleasant Retreat School and describes it as being in eastern PA, but nothing else about it. Are the two in the same location and are there other references to Pleasant Retreat? I own a quilt that I am researching; "Pieced for Violet M. Guthrie,1858" (listed, as 27 years of age, along with her widowed mother) in the 1860 census in New Derry, Westmoreland Co., PA. The 36 blocks were made primarily by girls and women from Clarion and Westmoreland Counties. (I have relatives in Westmoreland and surrounding counties so I recognized the locations right away) Two of the blocks, including her mother Sarah's, are signed Fountain Hill, Pa. The 36th block is signed "Violet M. Guthrie/Pleasant Retreat". My conclusion then is that she hadn't married (at least for two years after the quilt was made) but, as an unmarried woman in her 20's, she could easily have been a teacher. I have a file listing all the names and locations on the quilt for anyone interested. Also researching Clarence J. Plummer and descendents; Elmer R., Caleb, Levi, Abram or Abraham etc. Thank you in advance for any help provided.
