    1. Re: [PAINDIAN] Looking for someone to do research in Indiana County
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: teajay1944 Surnames: BORING and hundreds of others Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.pennsylvania.counties.indiana/6263.1.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I'm going to put my 2 cents in here - - - I am not sure I agree or disagree ON THIS PERSON looking for a researcher in Indiana Co - - BUT I only research my only family and I know this - - The Courthouse will certainly copy and send documents to you "IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU WANT" - - They will not do "general research" which is what I sometimes need - - I know that for a fact - I've tried. That being said - I've also asked for a researcher in Indiana Co from time to time (and other places around the country)and have never been able to find anyone who wants to help out. I'm not a SCAM - My family tree in Indiana Co contains over 6000 individuals. As much as genealogists talk about what they do, with very few exceptions, I've never found anyone who wants to help anyone out who isn't directly related to them in their family Tree. MAYBE this is because of past scams. I don't want to put myself on a pedistal but I help individuals all the time who are not related to me - and do it without charge (and many of them have been in Indiana County). Maybe people don't have as much time on their hands as I do nor the commitment. What we really need is a way for those of us who need and want some research done to find others who are willing to help out. You tell me where I can find someone to do some research for me at the courthouse (Not copy documents I am already aware of). 3. What about the Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness? (RAOGK) I am a volunteer in my area and have used their services as well. I had pictures taken of my uncle's gravesite in a WWII military cemetery in Sicily. I have also done some research for a woman in Brisbane, Australia. I've developed wonderful "pen pals" from doing this work. Try it sometime.
