He was born on May 19, 1866, in Bolivar, a son of Isaac and Jane Gibson Luther. At the time of his death he was aged 82 years, five months and six days. Entering the service of the P.R.R. when a young man he served 42 years as fireman and locomotive engineer. Before his retirement in 1935, he hauled some of the fastest passenger trains on the Pittsburgh Division. Mr. Luther's first wife, Janet Luther, died in 1932, and in 1935 he married Louise Lavina, who survives, with one daughter, Mrs. Jeannette Yingling, of Altoona, and two sons, William Luther, of Wadsworth, Ohio, and Isaac W. Luther, of Loyalhanna Avenue, Ligonier. Three grandchildren also survive, Virginia, Jacqueline and Janet Luther, as does one brother, Milo Luther, of Clyde, Indiana County. When in Derry, Mr. Luther attended the Methodist Church, and was a member of the Bolivar Methodist Church, since he moved to that sector. He also belonged to the Masonic order, in Wilkinsburg, and to the Tall Cedars of Lebanon, and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. Friends may call at the Hughes Funeral Home, on Third Avenue, Derry, where funeral services will be held Friday at 3 p.m. His pastor, the Rev. F.L. Teets, will be in charge.
