For anyone I missed via the Bartlebaugh update, here is a correction about information linked to Bartlebaugh. I want to get rid of one bit of Bartlebaugh information that we have found to be untrue. Written in the History of Franklin County Pennsylvania is a tax list for 1786 and a George Bartlebaugh. >From the "History of Franklin County, Pa." Warner, Beers & Co. 1887 a list of Taxables for 1786 listed a Geo. Bartlebaugh in Antrim Township with its present boundaries including the borough of Greencastle. This winter Ruth , Debbie and I looked at it very carefully. Though the spelling is Bartlebaugh, the person is really a George Puterbaugh. We have no idea why he was listed as a Bartlebaugh. I joined the Puterbaugh family list and had help from a few researchers of the Puterbaugh family Our John Bartlebaugh and family could not be found. Puterbaughs have accounted for almost all of their early Puterbaugh family. Their name changes are Butterbaugh, Buterbaugh and Booterbaugh. Their stories maybe close to some of our stories and they may have even lived near each other in Bedford County then later in Clearfield and Indiana County. Let us say it is 95% sure we do not come from that family. Now long ago it was dangerous if you called a Buterbaugh by the name Bartlebaugh, you had to run as you might get shot. Anyone know a reason for that story? Elaine
