    1. [INDIANA] Taxes Due?

    3. I just came across a notice in the Indiana Gazette for May 2, 1906 stating the following: Treasurer's Sale of Unseated Lands for Taxes Assessed for the Years 19903, 1904: In pursuance of the Act of Assembly, I will expose to sale in the Court House in Indiana Pa. on Monday, June 11, 1906 at 1:00 p.m. the following pieces of unseated land: (Cherry Tree) Acres - 7 1/2 Name - John F. Notley, Hanna Smith, George Atchison hr's Tax and Cost - 1 91 I am not sure what this means. If this is the George Atchison that lived in Cherry Tree, he died in 1877. John F. Notely died in 1893. I don't know who Hannah Smith is but I am wondering if the "hr's" refer to heirs and this means that the heirs have forfeited land because they failed to pay taxes due on inherited property. Any thoughts? Ann __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Search - Find what youre looking for faster http://search.yahoo.com

    3. Notices and attempts to sell the land could continue for years. If the owner died and property went to the heirs, they would be responsible for keeping up the tax payments. When looking through old newspapers I find allot of the same properties being sold for taxes owed. Sometimes if the heirs cannot agree on how to settle the property the sale can be held off for years.
