    3. Great detective work following the census trail. Log cabins were often built alongside creeks, ponds, springs or other water sources if possible. There may be a detectable depression in the ground for many years after the destruction of a log cabin. If you find a spot that looks likely, use a metal detector for nails and other metal objects. Depending on the terrain, a photograph from the air of the area just after sunrise or before sunset on a sunny day may reveal man made features such as old building sites. The low angle of the sun permits a side view of depressions and rises in the ground that may not be ordinarily detectable on the ground. Just depends on how much time and money you want to put into the project. If Samuel A. Gibson really lived to be 175 years old, you have great genes! (:>) Good luck in your hunt. Let me know if you ever find the site. Bill Lyons
