When and where is David Robert Cunningham found? GEORGE REED was born in 1801, near New Salem, Westmoreland county, and was a son of John and Dorcas Reed nee Neil. The former was a soldier in the Revolutionary war for eighteen months, serving three terms of six months each, for his father, brother, and himself. He was at the battles of Stony Point and Brandwine, where he was wounded in the leg. The only relief he received for his injury was by tearing off a piece of his linen shirt and drawing it through the hold in his leg. He was a native of Lancaster county, and four of his children were born in that county, and the remainder in Westmoreland. He died in 1818, at the age of seventy. His children were: Robert, d., b. in 1785, m. to Jane McCullough; James, d., b. in 1788, m. to Margaret Ralston; Adam, d., b. in 1789, m. to Mary Christy, d.; Jane, d., b. in 1794; John, d., b. in 1796; Samuel, d., b. in 1799, m. to Lavinia Hunter; George, b. in 1801, m. to Mary Mechling; Dorcas, d., b. in 1803, m. to Jeremiah Tittle, d.; and William, d., b. in 1805. James was county commissioner of Westmoreland county, and died during his first term. George was justice of the peace for one term. The latter was a millwright by trade, and built and repaired mills for twenty years. He erected three steam mills in Westmoreland county, namely, at New Salem, Derry, and Hannastown. He came to Indiana county in 1839, and erected the Reed and Wallace steam mill in Young township, the second steam mill in the county, the first being at Blairsville. Since 1855, he has been proprietor of the "old Clark mill," Young tp. Our subject's children were: John, d.; David M., m. to Eliza Marshall; Benjamin Franklin, d., m. to Jennie Sandles; Eliza, m. to David Robinson; Mary Jane, m. to John Jack; Charlotte Susan, m. to William McKelvey; Dorcas Ann, m. to William McGara; and Sybilla Margaret, m. to Robert Henry. John was a private in Co. K., 11th Pa. vols., and was promoted successively, to second lieutenant and captain. He was wounded at Antietam, while in command of his company, and died Oct. 2, 1862, before the latter commission reached him. David M. was a lieutenant in the militia at the time of the Morgan raid. Benjamin Franklin was a soldier in the 206th Pennsylvania volunteers. The children of William and Susan McKelvey nee Reed were: John, Frank, George and Armor.
