My name is Tina Bokar, my father is Richard Lee Harpster son of Frank Edward and Grace Harpster. I spent much of my childhood staying with my grandpa and grandma Harpster. One of my eariles memories one of Nans friends William (Nig) Neeley (life long friend of Nan, Rose Bossart) was in his 70's or so and is living at my granparents house. Apparently Nig was the surrogate fater to Elsie, Hearld and Frank. One of the things I have been told is, Nan's mother, married another man at some point in her life, his last name was Stewart, but we are not sure how his last name was spelled? They always referred to Nan's mom as Grandma Stewart. We do have pictures of them. One of the things I am trying to get to the bottom of but not quite sure how is...my father was told by someone, not sure who, that Elsie was adopted? I don't know at what point or if that is even true? Next, two rumors, if you will, were circ! ulated about my grandpa Harpsters dad. First, he went to California to try and "make his fortune" sometime between 1920 and 30. Second thing that circulated was, he was advised he had to move out that way for health reasons. We have just learned upon my research that Ward Edward did not die until 1948. My father has also advised that Ward and Rose did have a son Hearld, who I'm told legally changed his name to Richard Lee. I was told Richard died when on a run, he was a truck driver at this time, he pulled over and went to sleep. There was a leak in something to do with exhaust because I'm told he died from carbon monoxide. Apparently he was married to a woman named Helen? My father told me, my grandpa Harpster had to go to Buffalo, NY to get him when he died. I am told that Rose or Rose's mother at one time owned building that were over on Wooster Rd? To tell the truth I was told they were gaming houses? Apparently when my grandfather was a young man he dealt Black ! Jack out of one of them? I know Rose's name at death was McFarland. My father told me that Elsie's family was Dettling I believe. I am going through alot of pictures together with my dad this weekend. My grandparents had several pictures, old pictures, that Rose was in. I know, because I looked at these pictures every weekend as a child, there was also a picture of Richard/Hearld and one picture and the only one, of Ward holding my grandpa when he was under 6 months old. Once we get these together I will put them online to share. If you have had any updates on information please let me know. bokart@diebold.com Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
