James McDermott, who was formerly landlord of the Central Hotel in this place, and afterwards removed to East Vandergrift, was found dead in the Kiskiminetas river near Leechburg, on last Wednesday. The death of McDermott is surrounded by considerable mystery, and his friends suspect foul play, as he had a big cut on his forehead when found. McDermott was on the election board and left his home on the evening of election to carry the returns to Greesburg, where he received his money. He was supposed to have been seen between Saltsburg and West Apollo on a west bound train, but since nothing had been heard of his whereabouts. The body was taken to an undertaking establishment where a Coroner's inquest ws held Thursday and on Friday brought to this place and conveyed to Onberg, where it was interred in the Dunkard cemetery on Saturday. James McDermott, was a son of Marshall McDermott, of Rayne twp., and was about 58 years old. He is survived by his parents who live at Onberg, by his wife and five children, and six brothers, Henry and Peter of Nicktown; William, who resides in the West; Tipton, at Bolivar; George, residence unknown, Marshall, Brushvally, and Mrs. C.
