    1. [PA INDIANA] DAVIS Family Photographs
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" a group of old photographs belonging to the DAVIS Family of Pennsylvania. Based on limited research I was only able to locate census information for Edgar SWIVEL which might be of assistance and have included that information below along with details of the photographs: 1. Ann E. DAVIS, taken at the R. R. Tiffany Studio in Indiana, PA, 1870's, girl about 4 years old, note "1867-1956" 2. Charles Curtis DAVIS, taken at the R. R. Tiffany Studio in Indiana, PA, 1870's, boy 1-2 years old 3. Anne DAVIS, Cora ROBERTS, Ellen HOWELLS, and Ed SWIVEL, taken at the L. B. Kline Studio in Huntingdon, PA, dated 1896, three girls in teens or 20's, man in 20's or 30's, note - Anne DAVIS in this photo may not be same person in earlier photo 1900 census of Huntingdon Boro, PA: Edgar E. SWIVEL, age 35, born Aug 1864, married 4 years, born PA, parents born PA, a Barber Cora E. SWIVEL, wife, age 30, born May 1870, married 4 years, no children, born PA, parents born PA + 1 servant + 1 boarder 4. & 5. Ann E. DAVIS, no studio or location, girl about 5, 1870's, likely same girl in earlier Indiana, PA photo, note "from Mother's little album" - 2 of the same photo 6. Amelia HOWELLS, taken at the T. T. Spence Studio in Ebensburg, PA, 1870's, infant 7. Calling card for Helen Curtis DAVIS I am hoping to locate someone from this family so that this wonderful group of old photographs can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

I know Nancy passed away sometime between 1860 and 1867 as James was married to second wife, Rachel B. Reeves by sometime in 1867 at the latest. James and Nancy had four children that I am aware of, Harriet, Nancy Jane, Clark L. and Henry M. Pierce, but I only have approximate birthdates for them, 1849, 1854, 1857 and 1859, respectively. The bio also notes Harriet married a "Schreecongost" and Nancy married a D. Penrod, both found in the 1880 census, Harriet with David "Schreckenghost" with 5 children, Jane and Daniel Penrod with 2 children, but nothing on any other descendants. I have an approximate birthdate on Nancy Jane of 1825, but you have 1827 and if you have this confirmed in any way, I would like that information. My names for James' family are based in part on a brief bio for James B. PEIRCE posted on one of the India! na county websites, and some census transcriptions. I have not taken a big look at this branch yet, so I will have to come back around for a good search and will pass on what I find. How do you relate to this part of our family? I found one of my relatives. I wanted to let you know that one of the Unknown gravesites is that of my great grandfather, Anthony (Antonius) Oleskow. The family was poor and was probably not able to purchase a headstone. I have confirmation from The Church of the Resurrection (Formerly several parishes) with one of the former parishes being St. Michael's Church in Glen Campbell. I have a copy of the line from the written registry of deaths and burials if you are interested. Just thought I would let you know that one of the unknowns is now known. Don't know which one though. Author: franny01 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.pennsylvania.counties.indiana/6480.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The Indiana Democrat , Indiana Pa, March 11, 1903 Found Dead in the River. James McDermott, who was formerly landlord of the Central Hotel in this place, and afterwards removed to East Vandergrift, was found dead in the Kiskiminetas river near Leechburg, on last Wednesday. The death of McDermott is surrounded by considerable mystery, and his friends suspect foul play, as he had a big cut on his forehead when found. McDermott was on the election board and left his home on the evening of election to carry the returns to Greesburg, where he received his money. He was supposed to have been seen between Saltsburg and West Apollo on a west bound train, but since nothing had been heard of his whereabouts. The body was taken to an undertaking establishment where a Coroner's inquest ws held Thursday and on Friday brought to this place and conveyed to Onberg, where it was interred in the Dunkard cemetery on Saturday. James McDermott, was a son of Marshall McDermott, of Rayne twp., and was about 58 years old. He is survived by his parents who live at Onberg, by his wife and five children, and six brothers, Henry and Peter of Nicktown; William, who resides in the West; Tipton, at Bolivar; George, residence unknown, Marshall, Brushvally, and Mrs. C. H. Lindsey, of this place, and Mrs. John Fry of Graceton. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Soc. shows James McDermott (1855-1903) s/o Marshall L & Mary (Salsgiver) McDermott married Martha Jane Cunningham (1856-1947)d/o John & Agnes E (Adams) Cunningham prior 1880. 1880 census shows Martha enumerated in her parents home under the name Martha McDermot. I cannot find James in this census. Recently I found a James & Martha Jane McDurmitt, with the birth & death years as shown above, buried in Ruffner Cem, Rayne Twp, Indiana county, Pennsylvania; The entry for this cemetery shows Martha Jane's maiden name as Ruffner. Further research shows there was a Martha Jane Ruffner born about the same time as M J Cunningham who did marry a James McDermott. Does anyone have an obit for James McDermott/McDurmitt (dod 18Feb1903) or Martha Jane McDermott/McDurmitt - sorry I do not have a full date, just the year 1947. I have found a widowed Jane McDermott in the 1920-1930 census of Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. My assumption is she died in either Westmoreland or Indiana county Pennsylvania. I feel an obit for either James or Martha Jane would possibly give Martha's maiden name & help answer my questions. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
