    1. [PA INDIANA] James Murray - Heilwood-Pittsburgh 1920's-1930's
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: RMurray99 Surnames: Murray Rodgers Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.pennsylvania.counties.indiana/6486/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am searching for information regarding my grandfather, James V. Murray. James disappeared sometime around 1928-1930's. He was married to Gertrude Rodgers (1904-1963), with whom he had two sons, James Murray, 1925 & Edward Murray, 1927. After James disappeared Gertrude and her sons lived with Gertrude's parents, Lawrence Rodgers (1875-1963) & Katherine Judge (1875-1949) in Heilwood, Pine Twp., Indiana Co., PA. My father was always told that James had died around 1928 and that he was buried in Allegheny Co. Cem in Pittsburgh. My father visited that cemetery and found that they have no record of a James Murray. The family and friends were always extremely evasive when it came to discussing James. Most of them are all now dead. A search of the Indiana papers suggests that my grandmother, Gertrude Rodgers Murray, went by here married name up through Feb 1930, after which she and here children were always referred to by her maiden name, Rodgers. In 1930 she entered nursing school in Indiana, PA where she worked for the next 24 years. The name change may suggest that they were divorced. If James had died I would have expected Gertrude to keep her married name. In fact my father always thought that his last name was Rodgers and it wasn't until he entered the Navy that he found out that it was actually Murray. My father also says that he was told that James was born in England and that he lived in Pittsburgh. James and Gertude's first son, James was born in Pittsburgh. My father also says that his father may have been a metallurgist with Bethlehem Steel and that he may have been somehow connect to a payroll heist at the Bethlehem mines in Heilwood. If the latter were true I would have expected some mention of it in the Indiana paper, but I have yet to see anything. Not much to go on but perhaps some old timer in Heilwood may know something.
