There is only one cemetery in Indiana County that I know of that has only colored people in it and that is the Proctor/Proktor Cemetery. The other cemeteries there is no division between white and colored, anyone can be buried in them. There is a listing for the Blairsville Cemetery on Treasures of the Past. Does anyone know in what cemetery the colored people are buried in Blairsville ?
Does anyone know where I might find Francis LaBelle? He might be listed under LaCourt or Lacour. He lived in Chambersville, Indiana County in 1904.
I have Family Tree Maker 11 but haven't started to enter all the information into it yet, so I guess I need to do that and I will have answered my own question! I will also check the other sites referenced in your replies, so thank you for your quick responses! Sue in Virginia
http://www.gregg1.freeserve.co.uk/relationships.htm This seems to be a easy relationship chart.. Hope this helps.. Bill
There are differing opinions about naming "cousins," but in the first case, you would be third cousins with your grandfather's cousin's granddaughter. What I would call your relationship to her daughter and granddaughter is third cousin once removed and third cousin twice removed. It's fairly easy to figure out if you make a parallel list tracing your lineage and their lineage: Your Great- Grandfather His Sibling / / Your Grandfather Cousin / / Your parent Second Cousin / / You Third Cousin / Child of third cousin / Grandchild of third cousin Of course, you can always look for a chart, as other listers have mentioned! Sue, If you are keeping your information in a database, have you checked to see if it has that as one of the features? The software I use will calculate it for me. Hi Sue, If you have a program like Family Tree Maker and you pick an individual you can run a report and see what their relationship is to everyone else in your database. I have several versions of Family Tree Maker. Ancestry.com just sent me the newest version 11 free with my subscription. If you want Version 9 I'd be happy to send it to you. That way you own the actual program and not an unauthorized copy. Let me know. I still have your snail mail addy from the Smigiel research I was trying to help you with. Take Care, Michelle
What is the best way to figure out relationships between family members when it starts to get complex? Is there some easy to figure out chart or table available? As an example, what would my relationship be to my grandfather's cousin's granddaughter? What would my relationship be to HER daughter and HER granddaughter?? For lack of a better description, I guess they're long-lost distant cousins, but I'd like to find a way to better describe the relationship. Thanks, Sue in Virginia
Is there some easy to figure out chart or table > available? I always rely on my Family Tree Maker software, which can create a handy "kinship report" that specifies the precise relationship of everybody in my database to everybody else.
1st ? of the day is this in APRIL 1929 there was an article in the Indiana paper . "REEDER SCOTT OF KINPORT IS EMPLOYED AT GRANT SMITH'S AT THIS TIME" What was Grant Smiths or was it a who with a business or was he just doing some work for him. 2nd ? is this in 1923 Frank STIFFLER died in a mine accident in KinportI I've looked at several mining accident sites and can't find anything about this accident don't know if maybe he was the only one killed or what supposedly my grandmother sat in her house and watched them bring him out not knowing it was him which makes me think only 1 person died. Any clues on this? Thanks Deb Warren,Ohio

INDIANA EVENING GAZETTE SEPT. 16, 1921 SQUIRE EZRA NEFF Ezra Neff, a justice of the peace in Reynoldsville for more than 40 years, a veteran of the Civil War and one of the most prominent residents of Reynoldsville, died Tuesday in the DuBois hospital following a brief illness of an obstruction of the bowels. He had taken an active interest in G.A.R. affairs and was for many years commander of the Reynoldsville lodge of the B.P.O.E. and of a number of other fraternal organizations.
