I have no connection to Betty Coble (that I know of yet) but I sure enjoyed knowing that there are people like her in this world. Kind of restores my faith in womankind. Thanks for sharing the article. Doreen
Betty Coble lives in Hillsdale. The Presbyterian Chuch she belongs to is in Arcadia. She is indeed a delightful lady -- the Indiana Gazette did an article about her in 2002. This is the link to the article. http://www.zwire.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=4534914&BRD=1078&PAG=461&dept_id=151 025&rfi=8 If this doesn't work, type in Betty Coble in the seach feature and the year 2002. Betty has a son named Sam. He is probably around 48 now.
Hi Lola - Thanks for getting back.. Yes that is absolutely the Samuel that I am looking for. Unfortunately, I am looking for more than what is in the Hist. of Indiana Co. and hoping that someone has done some research here. The information that I have is that Alice Mariah Boring b. 1866 d/o Susan Makins (married to John F. Boring who died in 1864 and then married to George Boring in 1868) names her father as a DOC. COBLE and that she was born in MO on her death Cert....... All of these people are from Indiana Co. - - The Only Coble that I can find that was a Doctor was Samuel who was married to Maria Boring circa 1859. It sure sounds as if Susan moved to MO with Samuel and Maria . . . . and then moved back to Pa when she was pregnant and then later married George. . . . ----- Original Message ----- From: "LLAllen" <llallen@onramp113.org> To: <PAINDIAN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, April 09, 2004 3:29 PM Subject: Re: [INDIANA] Cole's again > Hi, > > There is a personal sketch of Epyrus COBLE, son of Dr. Samuel COBLE & Maria > BORING, in the History of Indiana Co., PA. Hi, There is a personal sketch of Epyrus COBLE, son of Dr. Samuel COBLE & Maria BORING, in the History of Indiana Co., PA. No birth year is given for Dr. Samuel COBLE; however, according to the book, he died 1872 in Missouri. Any chance this is your guy? If so, I could try scanning the page and email it to you. Would like to correspond with anyone who is familiar with Samuel L. Coble (1826-1872)
An Addendum to my previous message - "Looking for a Doc. Coble" I strongly suspect that he is somehow related to Samuel L. Coble b. abt 1826 d. 1872 and may be a brother or cousin. . .
I am looking for someone that I know only as "Doc Coble". He would have been born most likely in the 1830s or 1840's and would have been living in Indiana Co., possibly Pine Twp (or close by) circa 1864/1866. Additionally he may have been Born in or more likely moved to Missouri at some point. I don't know if the "Doc" is a name or if he was some kind of Doctor ???
Sue, I would like to thank you for your posting concerning terraserver.microsoft.com/ . My husband was a pilot and when I showed him this site, he spent several hours locating our home and homes of friends of ours across the US. A few minutes of fun with very little cost and never leave the comfort of your own home! They seem to be from either the late 1970s or early 1990s, but I find them absolutely fascinating to see relationships between towns, landmarks, cemeteries, etc. Here is the main site link: http://terraserver.microsoft.com/<http://terraserver.microsoft.com/> You can plug in the name of the town and the state in the "Search" function and it will take you to whatever satellite views they have. They are usually sections of the area. You can click on them to zoom in .... and it is usually enough to pinpoint roads, reservoirs, lakes, houses, churches, etc. Have fun. I've spent hours using the arrows to follow roads, and have been able to pinpoint some that I had been looking for while on the ground! Randy, Hi, I'm Leona Henderson. I have seen some names connected with Brice Henderson: Brice as the child of Samuel and Sarah A. with siblings Emma, William, Samuel W., John and Robert in Washington, Indiana county, in 1860 Census. Brice and Nancy M. in 1860 Census in Kittaning, Elderton Borough, Armstrong county, PA with children Elizabeth, Martha, William T. and Nancy M. (child) I also found citations for Brice (age 41) in Elderton, Armstrong, Pennsylvania for 1870 Census, Brice (age 19) in Armstrong, Indiana county with the post office of Saltsburg, . I was not able to view these so can't tell you who is listed in the household. Also in 1880, Brice (age 51) in Elderton, Armstrong, PA, and Brice (age 30) in Armstrong, Indiana county and then, Brice L. age 18 in the household of Mary Henderson in Brookville, Jefferson county, PA. These might be a place to check. Hope this will be of some help. Do you have any specific time frame you think Brice fell into? Yvonne, I have a poor copy of a map of Green County but there are some schools located on the map near Cookport. ( I think this map is from the 1871 atlas) Unfortunately the schools are identified by a number, not a name, but there is a school marked on the same road as a C. Baker house is marked. Right next to School No. 6? is a small road with "P. Johnson" marked at the end with "S.S. Mill" (steam saw mill) and a row of dots marked "Shanties" This is located on a road that heads east from Cookport to Spruce. I think you can view this map at Treasures of the Past site. I'd be interested in a scan of the sawmill if you wouldn't mind, I have an interest in the lumber business in that area in the 1800's. I also checked in the chapter on Green Twp. in Stewart's book, found no mention of the school. Dear Elaine... Sorry...just got five minutes to sit down at my desk after reading ten thousand rough drafts of student papers ('tis the season!). Replogles in Green township in 1850: Jacob Replogal owned 150 acres at a rate of $4 per acre (total of $600 in real estate). He owned two cows worth $6 each (no horses). His occupation is listed as farmer. There is also a tract of 200 acres listed for George Riplogal or Joseph J. Young Esq. The land is also assessed at $4 per acre (this, by the way is a little better than the average $3.50 per acre). This assessment also includes one cow valued at $9 and he is also listed as a farmer. George was also assessed a militia fine of $.50. In 1845, there is a listing for: Jacob Replogle in Green township who owned 225 acres valued at $2.50 per acre. He owned one cow and one horse, the total value of which was $18 (must have been some horse). No Replogles listed in 1810 or 1815. Hope this helps you. Thanks so much for the photo of the cabin. -smb :-)
