    3. I am unrelated to any of these people, but was searching through old newspapers and thought someone might find this information useful. The newspaper article was printed in "The Springdale Reformer" of Springdale, WA, in the January 24, 1908 issue on page 2. The paper is on microfilm at the Washington State Library in Olympia, WA. The article states that four children were drowned while ice skating at Coral, Pennsylvania on January 20th: Sadie Kinley, 12 years old, Renie Kinley, 11 years old, Charlotte Kinley, 8 years old and Roy Stokes, 13 years old.

    2. What a horrible thing for a mother to do to her son...but about the husband?? why did she do it?? Could be another "burning bed' type of situation but blaming the son and then knowing they would hang him...horrible... Rochelle > > If I am correct, that was the last hanging in the county. 3. Perhaps the mother didn't really kill her husband after all. Could she have made the death bed confession in order to clear the son's name after the fact even though he was actually guilty? Stranger things happen every day.

    3. The hangman's noose and related story is on exhibit in the new Indiana County Historical Museum at the Historical Society. Also on exhibit is the murder weapon and story behind the last IC fellow electrocuted for a capital crime (not executed in IC but from IC.) They were probably within a 1 mile or so of that crossing, probably on the south side of the creek, is my best guess. The article in the History of Indiana County was off on the direction from Davidsville (Trade City) that they lived. That is what through me off. Thanks though. Dick

Surnames: Knauf Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/UaB.2ACE/3251.3.1 Message Board Post: Roger and Doug, that you for the responses. I can see now that by the way the census taker was working, he wasn't being limited to a particular P.O. area, and that becomes meaningless in trying to establish locations of individuals. I just came back from the local LDS library, and made a list of neighbors for 1850, 60, and 70, and will try to use that for a basis to pinpoint locations. The John Knauff on the map is an unrelated neighbor. Appears to have arrived in the area between 1860 and 1870, and is household #149 in what is labeled as Grant P.O. Haven't checked him out to see where he came from before then. But Hartman appears to be in that corner of the township, and his father Michael, appears to be on the South side of the Mahoning creek, in North Mahoning Township. . I am finding out the hard way that whoever wrote the article in "History of Indiana County, Pennsylvania, her People past and Present", used considerable liberty in the story of this family. They! indicated that the Knauf's lived 3 miles East of Trade City, so I have been searching in that area to no avail. I think I am on the right track now. Thanks for the help, and the direction to look in. It is greatly appreciated. Dick

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/UaB.2ACE/3251.2 Message Board Post: Well, further examination leads me to change my mind about what I posted previously. We can see that the census guy continued west on the road out of Marchand PO going from the T. Ewing house, #83 in Dist 5 to H. Dilts, family #84. North of Dilts we then come to the J, Knauf farm located on the map immediately under the "No. 5". The H. Knox that I refered to in the previous post is Henry Knox NOT to be confused with H. Knauf. After the Knauf farm the census guy went west and south along the raod to Georgeville PO, to the James Dilts farm, #91 and T. Hoover farm at #93.
